Dust????
I would decide what system you would like to use and go with them to train, there is a lot of choice out there...NSI, CND, Ez flow, for starters..most clients go for Acrylic or Gel I find...x

When you say gel do you mean biosculpture? I trained in this at my last salon and i couldnt get on with it, it may have had something to do with the fact that we only had half a days training, but neither myself or my collegue were impressed, the gels kept lifting. The nail tech who came to work with us used to use something called silk dust!!! aswell as tips but the clients rarely came back.
Is Star Nails a good product?x

Acrylic or Liquid and powder as it is also known (L&P) is by far the most popular system.
If you are already set up as a Beauty therapist in a salon, then introducing it and the smell that goes along with it could be a headache!! (not literally!)
Therefore Gel which is odourless could be the system for you. Also very popular.

Whatever system you choose, then I would advise training with the Company whose products you decide to use, and do your homework before you make the final decision.

You can do searches here on site on,Buff off Gel, Soak off gel, acrylic, L&P and see what you think!!

I have been mobile for the last 10months and listening to people thought that nail extensions might be a way of boosting business slightly. The thing is that when i was training at college 12 years ago it wasnt something that i wanted to consider as i thought it was best to work and improve the natural nail, but as my hubby says , the customer is always right so give them what they want.
Do you think maybe i would be best to speak to the girls at Sallys and let them guide me?x:rolleyes:

I personally don't rate Sally's or Star nails. I've always found them what I would term as student quality, but Bio Sculpture is a premium product and you are probably right that it is a lack of training that let you down, as it is quite differnt to apply than other system.....and never budges if applied properly!

I think this link is probably a good place to start... and then I'm afraid its matter of research, research and research.....here and google.

For what its worth, I've never heard of 'dust' as a system, it maybe a product name, but certainly is not a recognised system. And the best training I've perosnally done has been with Creative. I learnt more from that than all my other (numerous) nail courses put together.

I'd phone up lots of different companies and get their training brochures. Have a good read, ask questions on here, if possible speak to the actual person you are going to train with, ask them to do a nail on you even. Another thing to watch is that the certificate you get from the company is recognised for insurance purposes. After doing all this, then make your decision.

I took a long time to decide who I was going to train with - one company (Ezflow) because I really liked the person, knew she was very knowledgeable and loved a nail she did on me (thanks Izzi! x), the other company (Creative) because of their reputation (Thanks Wee Fi! x)

These were both good decisions and I've had excellent training from both of them. I can buy products from each of them to suit my purposes. I know they are top quality products I am going to have very few problems with. You would either have to train wth the two companes I use, or have done a conversion course, before you are allowed to buy their products. Not all companes insist on this, but it keeps the standard of work high from the techs advertising as using their products.

It's a big decision to make, and could be a costly one if you don't choose well in the first place. So, don't rush into it.

HTH xx

whats dust hun?

90% of my clients have L & P the other 5% have gel and the 5% have fibreglass.
I tried lots of different brands, after i did a year at college and chose Young Nails as my nails stayed put, I liked the consisentcy and got extra training from them at a reasonable price.

Give this number a call 0845 210 6060 and ask for their creative training portfolio,
if you have creative training you wont regret it for 1 minute hth

In a word, No!!!!! Sorry but the girls that work in there have little idea of what being a professional nail tech involves, just have a look at their products, they are fine for the practicing public because, I, then then get their business when it all goes pearshaped(result for me but shame for them). They are selling all hair, waxing, skin and nails.

The above advice is fab and research fully before you decide. I am a bit peed at the girls in there sometimes as they try to tell me about a new nail art thing or such like, when I am in for couch roll, and they say to people see, look at her nails, so I am very quick to respond, yes I use CND or Ezflow for my colours. NOT available on these shelves and never will be!

Take a bit of time to research on here hun.

Going to stick my neck out here.
Firstly please don't think I'm having a go at you, I'm not:hug:
You will not be successful as a nail tech by 'having a go' its not something that you can pick up and perfect in a day or even a 5 day course.
A good foundation course is usually a 5 day course, has lots of practical homework and is completely addictive. These foundation courses are designed to give you the basics to go out there and practice on clients for around 6 months, which gives you a good idea of what course you will want to do next. And yes there is always another course that you want to do:lol:
When I did my research before signing up to a foundation course, I looked at, cost, course content and materials supplied.
I'm making a purely personal comment here, but compared to some other suppliers I found star nails, lacking in all three.
My personal choice was for cnd and the reason for that was because so many companies rattled through what they did and then said to me, of course, we're not cnd, but then, we don't charge as much as them, which left me with the feeling that I was going to get what I paid for and if it was going to be my business, then shouldn't I be getting the best?
If you are looking for an add on service, that's quick to learn, and easy to have as a mobile service with fairly low start up costs I would suggest spray tanning. If nails excite you then I would recomend having a chat with cnd, ezflow and nsi and seeing who you personally click with, because you are going to make friends with them and you are going to continue to have training with them and products from them for a long time.
Good luck with what ever you decide to do

Wow, thanx ladies, i must admit it is all a bit mind blowing and am actually thinking , Maybe it,s not for me, or is it? Will give it lots of thought, thanx for the advice.xxx:hug:
