Clay canes used in nail art

im fairly new to nail art, so not too sure how clay canes are used .. can they be applied to the natural nail with with wet varnish, then a top coat or can they only be used with enhancements?
would appreciate any advice how to use them, they look so cute !

If you do a search you will find many posts re these clay canes. Plus many of the sites that sell them also do on line tutorials and videos. I'd have a look.
