Cleaning your straightening irons

Can a hair geek please tell me how to clean my straigtening irons, they seem to be dragging at my hair and catching, whats the best way to clean them, I dont use products in my hair.

I just wizz over them while there still warm with a baby wipe... gets all the crusty bits at the sides off lol xx

Use cotton wool balls dabbed in nail varnish remover and then wipe clean with warm soapy water.

Do you do this on warm or cold irons , Im ashamed at the state of mine, tried nail polish but there still looking grim.

surgical spirit, hygienic and lifts off all product if ur rub it up nicely. . x

In the salon I work in they normally heat up the irons and using a damp towel with just water rub the marks away.
