Hi,

Just had a last minute appointment from a lady asking for clear acrylic but I'm panicking because since I have been qualified I have only done sculptured and not tips. If I extend the natural nails using forms and clear acrylic the nails are going to look like glass aren't they and the re-growth will be seen after a few days!! Is tips my ownly option??? Please say no!!!

Thanks

Kat

I use a covering pink to cover the natural nail and extend it over a little bit, so when their nail grows it will be under the pink.

i am learning to sculpt at the moment and the other day i used clear powder as opposed to natural powder and they did look awful - excatly how you described them looking like glass!

do you think you could maybe speak to your client and explain that they will look glass like and see if she would maybe convert to a natural powder instead. you never know when she said clear she might of meant natural as in oppose to a white unatural looking tip!

please let us know what you decide hun - id be quite interested to find out!

thanks and hth,

Hi
You could use the reverse application method when using forms but I think tips could possibly make it easier for you. Did you ask what she was looking for exactly? The reason I ask is because some people ask for clear but don't actually mean clear lol - they just don't want bright white. A soft white or an opaque might suit her better for what she is actually looking for. Or perhaps a custom blend so it's not quite opaque and not quite clear if that makes sense! Although saying that, if we all liked the same things then it would be a dull place!

Why don't you try different styles on one of your own hands before the appointment? Sorry if this is something you have most likely already tried but it's surprising how many techs actually struggle for a model and rarely use themselves!

I have a client booked in on thursday who likes to try something different every time and I'm always buying new things for her to try so today my left hand looks a little crazy but I can show my client the difference between each (on a real hand rather than sample tips) and she can decide if she prefers the tip, the sculpture, the colour, the clear etc. I know sometimes it can be scary but I like to put myself in those situations where I need to try something new and scare myself senseless! It's a great way to learn :D And trust me when I say this - if you practice even just one hand on yourself, you will feel so much more confident when the time comes for your appointment!

I'm not sure if any of that helps - let us know how you get on! xx
