Ok this is going to be a long one..

I did a girls nails for her formal about 3 weeks ago.. have not seen her since.. I asked her if she intended to keep the nails on and she said no.. so i was super careful and only just removed the shine.. i didn;t even do a full prep as she worked in a place where nails are not allowed.. i explaind to her that if she was happy for me to do teh set of nails with the idea that withing a few weeks they would come off very easily.. she agreeed...

The problem is that 3 weeks later they were still on so she decided to soak them off her self.... with Metho and then when that didn;t get it all off she used nail polish remover...

She came into the salon rantign and raving to the hair dressers ( as i was not there) that her nails were stained pink adn that i had done it to her daughter.....

I spoke with her on the pbhone and asked if she used a pink polish remover and she said no.... ( I don;t believe her)..
I told her on the phone that she had done the wrong thing with the metho and I had not seen the nails for over 3 weeks .. i asked if she had new bed sheets , red t shirt etc. i have had staining from new jeans etc and new bed sheets that have not had a first wash etc...
she said there was nothing new and that she would be in on thursday to show me and for me to fix them????

what the hell am i going to do with this phyco woman and her daughter?... the girls in the salon said she is a "rough" lady and she was not happy!

Thanks
Mel

there isnt really alot you can do. she has taken the nails off herself using the wrong products.

did you advise her how to remove the nails when you did them?

did you get her to sign a client consent form?

i would see what they are like and maybe offer to do a manicure. its possible she may have done damage to her nailbed, and the "rawness"/damage is what makes it look like her nails are stained (if that makes any sense??)

Take pictures if she comes in to have them looked at!!! I bet she ripped them off and the "stain" is alomst like a ring-of-fire. (not from you, from ripping them off) Or she had to file them off and filed through her nail.

i found another topic on here which says how to check the nail for damage.

if she says that she only used those 2 products to remove her nails, this test will rule out damage to the natural nail ie: filing or prising them off

the actual topic itself doesnt relate to your issue, but if you read what vhunter says (about half way down on 1st page), that should hopefully help you determine staining or damage. xx

I don't know about in Oz, but in the UK she would not stand a cat in hell's chance of having any come back. She has tampered with the goods and any guarantee is null and void / just as if she had decided to repair her own tv set, cock it up and then take it to the place she bought it.

Do you have insurance? If so then just give her your insurance details and tell her take it up with them.

Don't let her demeanour intimidate you. If she gets out of hand then call the police. No doubt her daughter isn't telling her the full truth. Also your contract is always with your client and not with a 3rd party / although in the UK this is slightly different with under 16's as the parent is responsible I believe.

I agree that she has probably thinned the nail plate too much and it is the blood supply from below the nail plate that is causing the red affect. try and prepare what you are going to say in advance so that you can remain confident. If you know you are right do not give a refund.

I totally agree!! Do not let her intimidate you. Your service was for the client not the mother and I would only discuss it with my client and not let others get involved who dont need to be. x

Thanks for the advice .. i know that i am in the right and there is no way that i am going to offer a refund ... nor am i going to offer a free mani...

this is what i am going to say... or something like this..

Acrylic nails are made up of various chemicals... monomers and poly .. when these two chemicals are mixed together in the correct ratio they form a hard arcylic nail.... To reverse this the correct chemical must be used... ie acetone... by a proffesional nail technician... since you took matters into your own hands ( excuss the pun..lol).. and used a combernation of metho and supermarket nail polish to soak and pry ( if everdent) you have most likely thinned your natural nail and the "pink" is the blood flow close to the surface.. I reccomend that you apply this solar oil ( for a cost) to the nail plate morning and night and do not paint or try and file the stainning off other wise it will get worse..

Does that sound ok?.. there will be no winners on this one.. i know it now.. they were never goign to be repeat clients but i hate the thought that my name will get slandered anyway.. just the type of people they are.

Thanks again
Mel

Sounds okay, doesn't really matter what you say as long as you keep your cool and remain confident. lt us know how you get on - she may not even bother showing with any luck!

And if she starts trying to get you involved in further discussion use what is known as the "broken record" technique. You just repeat what you have said before, and repeat it, etc. Don't get involved on going off track. Good luck! xx

Make sure that you reaffirm with her that it isn't 'staining' but damage that she's caused.

Good luck

Thanks for those tips... I doubt that she wont turn up... she has a point to prove... hopefully she might just think it isnt worth the petrol!!! lol

I will stick to the broken record and hope that she gets sick of hear it and leaves...
I wanted to use the excuse that i have a client with me and she will need to make a time... but my first client is the hair dresser!!! so that wont work. she is still a paying client so i guess i could.... Oh man i am nervouse and not looking forward to it...

I just pray that they are all "roughed " up and i can clearly see that they "fell off".. with some forced help...

ok well i will get back on here tonight and let you know how i went...
thanks for al your help... it is only 9 o clock and i have butterflies in my tummy..

X Mel

A good swipe of Scrubfresh will expose the damage good and proper. Hope all goes well. Let us know. x

SHE DIDN'T TURN UP!... I was sweating in my skin for about an hour.... then i just got mad that she made me sweat for no reason... now i am glad she didn't turn up..

well lesson learnt for next time... The hair dressers today told me that the old nail tech ( his ex wife) had trouble with them too... pains in the &^^%.. he said..
At least the salon owner knew the story and didnt blame me..

talk to you all later and thanks for the support i needed..
Mel

I hate to say I told you so ... but I told you so!!!!! :green::hug: They usually like to have a rant and then can't be arsed to turn up. if she does turn up out of the blue just state that you had an appointment that she failed to keep and that you will now be charging her for the wasted time!!!!!

Good to know you have your colleagues on your side though. funny how they love to complain but they still come back, tells you something .. that they know that they are pulling a fast one!

You are sooooo right... they just want to have a rant about anything and something for nothing... anyway glad that she didnt turn up ... but thanks for the advise if she does turn up i will tell her that i put the time aside and if she wishes to talk about it she will have to make another time and be charged for it... lol

some people!

thanks for teh advise and the rant myself..
Mel
