Hi all I am new to this forum, I have just started doing nails since March and sit my Acrylic Extensions exam this Sunday, I did a set of tips on Tuesday night for practice on my mums friend and my sister but my mums friend has popped (her words) a few nails off, my sister's nails on the other hand are fine. I asked her what she has been up to and she said housework? She had really small nail plates and I took my time, did proper prep etc. Does anyone know what could have gone wrong. I don't want this to be happening when I go out into the big bad world.:(

Hey ... this is the real world .. some people are just not used to nails and bang them. They don't pop off ... they break them. These things will happen and you have to learn to deal with it, by explaining to the client and by giving them the right prescription of length in the first place. For some even short nails are LONG to them. Go shorter next time.

Did you tell her to wear rubber gloves whilst doing washing up and other household chores, like cleaning the floors etc.

Just out of interest did you charge them for the nail service?

Dont be quick to jump to accepting the blame - it is possible that if they were free then the "clients" would place no value on them and hence not look after them.

Actually I never wear gloves to do any household chores! Wearing gloves does not prevent breakages. Wearing gloves may protecct your skin but not wearing them has never caused any problems for me.

I, too, do housework, gardening and farm work without gloves and I have what I think are fairly long nails (kinda short to most techs I guess). But in my 22 yrs experience--nails do not "pop" off. If you question them closely about how they use their hands, you can guage how long you should make the extension. There are a lot of people out there that use their nails like tools but don't realize it until you point it out to them. So, don't feel too bad about this girls nails, just learn from the experience!

I never wear gloves either and my nails are always fine. Its tends to always be the same clients who have breaks for me. Some people are quite rough with their nails. Go shorter next time;)

hi guys
i have a client who comes to me every 2 weeks for re balance and her nails come back in a right state and i mean cracked, broken split you name it and they have it, i always feel terrible BUT what i have learn't to accept is it is not my work it is hers she is a motor mechanic and she knows her job causes these problems although she wears gloves it is inevitable that her nails are going to go through hell, she never complains tho that she has to come back every 2 weeks because she is pleased with my work, it would seem we all need clients like this.
so dont worry too much just explain things to her and hopefully next time her nails will be a little shorter and she wont be able to use them as tools.
good luck
