Hi Guys

I rent a room above a hairdressers and think im going to move premises.
The hairdressers clients come up to me for beauty treatments, because im a self employed beauty therapist that doesnt do hairdressing can i tell them im moving or is that still poaching?

The only thing that they wont be happy with is that if i move it will be in another hairdressers, so i can see its not great. Its not up to me if the clients swap hairdressers i just want thier beauty custom.

whats your thoughts/ opinion?

thanks in advance
xx

You are self employed so the clients you see are yours,
there is nothing stopping you telling them where you are going, hth

sure id tell my clients where i was going to but i might ask them to be descrete . Be prepared for the salon you are at to not be exactly chuffed about it if its near by . it will prob cause tension

Make sure you get all your clients addresses & mobile numbers, then when you have moved you can send them your new details.

If you are staying in the same area you also could do a spread/ advert in your local paper to let everyone know.

How comes you are thinking of moving from one hairdressers to another?

fancy a new challange and the rent is 170 pounds cheaper a month, the hairdresser has said she will go 50/50 on advertising so thats a bonus plus free parking etc.

im updating client record cards at the mo and will do up until i move

Ah now this could cause you problems down line...if your new landlord splits advertising costs with you to get beauty treatment clients in for the new upstairs business then just be careful that they may have a call on those customers if you should ever look to move on again on the basis they paid part of advertising to bring these customers in so(I.E. develop your business) they (or 50% of them) belong to the landlord kind of thing .

Maybe unlikely but better to be safe than sorry...in fact to best protect your future position dont let her contribute on any advertising...rather try and get any contribution shown as a rent reduction...this way it is what it is..a reduction for start up on rent...any call on clients down line is much more difficult to obtain for them.

In so far as your current situation is concerned there are more factors than you have posted that could or could not cause you problems so the safest bet is to simply inform your customers that you will no longer be available to undertake treatments on them as of XXXX date.

This will lead them to ask you what/where you will be going..so tell them
Technically you have not touted them as they have asked you for the information...just a play on how you go about things which if done correctly and within any contractual contracts you may have entered into with your current landlord(written or established over time(usage)should best protect your commercial position and consequential best interests.

Just some partial thoughts and good luck to you

great advice as always collin xx
