The NORTH!
Hi again, I have had a few people asking me about enhancements who go to NSS in the markets. The nails in my opinion are not natural looking and very thick. They tell me the normal stories of how they hurt them etc but are cheaper than me.

So i have done a set on a client and told her the aftercare during the treatment. She asked me 'will they last 6 weeks!!! cos they do normally'. i was shocked and said no she would need rebalance 2-3 weeks which she was not impressed and insisted she would have a new set each time instead:rolleyes:
When i had finsihed she said they were very thin, playing, putting them in her mouth. I could see she wasn't happy as they weren't what she was used to but i was very happy with my work.
Two hours later i had a text one had broke!
then the next day all had fallen off because i did them too thin and they were to flimsy and were not worth the money!
I was so mad but text back nicely that i would be more than happy to have a look at them and see the reason they came off as i would be able to tell if they had been pulled or bitten off.
I've not heard from her since but will see her on the school run soon.

so how do we deal with clients like this? what could i have done better

thanks x

:lol::lol: Sorry I have to chuckle this thread.. rings bells to me.

I had a client who was going to the NNS, and then came to me.She insisted she could go four weeks for her infills and insis she did.But she was soon on the phone again when she broke one though IMA !!!!

Aparently she wasnt happy with my nails as she needed to know her nails were ...going to stay on if she had to grab her dogs at all whilst out ! :irked: well sposse with NNS nails she could!

I think the case of an ex NNS client loosing your nails, is because they are so used to wearing cement on their nails, when it comes to your product ,they are not used to it , and bash it around like they used to.The only thing you can do is still keep them quite thick whilst they are still getting used to your nails, and gradually make them thinner, and explain this to the client as well.

Anyway this lady I had , actually returned to the NNS , and when I bumped into her oneday, she told me ..I was too slow, and thats why she went back.I told her of the damage they were doing to her natural nail, she looked at her nails and said they were fine...some people I just think dont want to listen and know better.

Whew..........Honestly why do we even waste our breath on some people?
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.
I think that lady is a lost cause.........gives you space for a more worthy client for your skills.
Lotsa luv x   x

IMO I think with some people you we can never win. All we can do is give them advise on the damage that MMA can cause, and then it's up to them if they choose to use us. I do put it down to cost a lot of the time, as the some of these nail bars are really cheap, and if the nails last for 6 weeks then in the clients mind they are getting a better "deal" for their money.

I've seen a girl in the past who went for an infill and they used an e file and filed right through her nailbed to the flesh below, but then acrylic was applied over the open wound. I asked why she didn't tell them that it was hurting, and she said that when she tried to pull her hands away, they just yanked them back. She also tried to tell them but as then were non english speaking they didn't understand. Needless to say, she never went back and now has her own natural nails that are manicured every 2 weeks.

This is competition is something that I feel we have to live with. We know as Techs. that we are using better products and producing nicer looking nails, but for some the money saved is more important to then.

I have seen very different types of "NSS" nails....some like you say are thick and discoloured and nasty....others have blown me away with how thin and beautiful they are.

Its more to do with their methods and products rather than the actual look of the nails IMO

If someone comes to me with MMA (or any) kind of nails on and they look fine then i just rebalance using my own brand....this way they get used to the difference in products gradually..I also reduce the length and tell them that they need to give it a little time to adjust. They always do after a few weeks.

If someone comes in with nothing on their nails but are used to thick MMA (or other brand) nails then i make mine thicker too....and reduce the thickness at each visit...again so they get used to it and adjust gradually.

I know it goes against the grain sometimes to do thicker nails but sometimes, some clients need them...and i would rather do them a little thicker and keep them as a client than they go elsewhere.

HTH x

I have to say some the nail tech's at NSS's actually do good nails, they are thin, nice form and shape, do not lift, very quick and cheap. So how do I compete? I can't, not on price, not on time, I do however give great service, a beautifully clean salon with disinfected implements and files and great conversation (if the rest of my body worked out as much as my jaws and tongue it would be super fit.:lol:)

Some people choose NSS and some choose me, I am most grateful for my clients and give them 110%
