please can someone let me know what companies they use for clinical waste?

I have been told that anything that comes into contact with the skin is deemed as clincal waste, so therefore all cotton wool used during a facial or manicure is also clinical waste? Surley madness as we all cleanse our faces at home and put the cotton wool in the bin

Just speaking with hubby (he works for a waste management company). Clinical waste contaminated by blood must be disposed of by a specialist waste company. Clinical waste contaminated by body hair, can go for land fill, but you would need to check with your local environmental health department to see if they would allow you to place it for normal collection or not.

Cotton wool, etc that has just wiped skin is NOT clinical waste.

Thank you, the environmental health woman told me anything that touches the skin is clinical waste - couch roll, everything. I can understand if it has coma into contact with blood. Are wax strips clinical waste?

My hubby was reeling off codes, which I tried to ignore, but it might help you if you are armed with them!!

Blood contaminated waste comes under 180103 - which means it needs to be disposed of by incineration or alternative means.

Body hair comes under 180104 - which means it can be disposed of in landfill, but should be in clinical waste bags. That said, it depends on your circumstances and local council. I can see this would probably be the case if you are a salon, but I'm not sure how you work. I work from home and spoke to my local council and they are happy for me to put my waste in my normal bin, but only because I don't offer intimate waxing. If I did offer this, then I would need to use a professional clincal waste collection service.

Cotton wool, bed roll, etc (unless contaminated by blood) can be disposed of as "general waste".

HTH x

Totally agree, that's what we've have been advised. This is why waxing strips should be disposed of correctly whether there is blood showing or not, it's due to the risk of contamination.

We were advised that it should go into clinical waste bags but not to be disposed off to landfill or be placed in household waste.

We use a company that supplies us with a small bin that suits both hair and waxing. It gets taken away to be incinerated.

They also issue a waste disposal licence and contract. It makes no difference if you own a salon, work from home or mobile.

That's what we have been told for our area.

Is your company local or do they cover the whole country?

They are based in Kent but go as far as London I believe. I asked the other day as they are a small excellent company who I would gladly recommend.
