Clip ins to weft sew in

Just wondering has anyone used their clip ins as a sew in weave? (Removing clips and just using all the wefts?) what’s the lifespan like? As someone I know said they buy their own hair (foxy locks or beauty works) and then just remove all the clips and use them as wefts?!!
