Hello,

I am a recent grad and I have just opened my own business. I heard from one of my clients who I was doing a gel toe nail fix on that her old girl cut it to shorten insead of filing. Can this be done and with what??

This is just an old school technique,
either they would use clippers to tip cutters to 'clip' back the length.

This will lead to cracks, breaks, micro fractures, lifting and overall a bad result, but this didn't stop a lot of techs doing it....

Filing is a much safer option ensuring better product durability!

I agree with Allan ... Filing is the better and safer option .. it's not as if toenails get so long that they are a big chore to file.

Thanks that makes me feel better, I am getting a lot of clients from someone in town who left and they are always asking why I do things differently.

How about just saying because there are many ways to do things and it doesn't make one right and one wrong. That you have sound reasons for choosing to work the way you do, backed by regular up-to-date education classes.
