Hello, I have always had velocity tips which are lovely and thin, easy to blend, someone recommended the Formation tips so I bought a box.
They are very thick and take alot of blending.
It is Creative packaging so I wondered if the tips in the latest CND packaging are different, thinner perhaps?

Hey Mel - Formation ARE much thicker with mush more contact area for nail biters specifically. If it helps go to www.sweetsquared.com and look at the definitions of the tips. You can of course take much of the contact area out.

Before Velocity and Performance, Formation was the number one selling tip world wide but of course we all want more speed. As I said Formation are the bomb for really difficult nail shapes and particularly horrible badly bitten nails.

Hi Sam
I must say they fit so nicely.
I used some at a friends and I hadn't remembered them taking so much blending.
Just looking at The Event sounds amazing. I can't wait to find out your new secret products.:Grope: x

Are you coming?? The more this unfolds the more exciting it gets... and we are the ones organising it!!!:)

Formation are fabulous but that contact area is there for a reason. If you want to take some of it out use a 100/180 black grit file amd hold it at 45 degree angle and buff down the end - it will shave away the contact area and you can pop it out like a half moon giving you much less to half the normal contact area.

Thankyou brilliant tip - excuse the pun!!!

I didn't like the natural formation tips but have been using the clear ones which seem to be much thinner to me....or it could be all in my mind lol!

Can I ask,, prob sill question, but why do you use full well tips on nail biters only to take well away??

I use eclipse or perfomance and do not blend, is this wrong??? xx

Katie are you saying you dont blend an Eclipse Tip? A Performance needs no blending but an Eclipse... it would leave a lot of shadowing and a 'bump' without blending. Explain:idea: As to why you would take some of the Formation away - well it depends on how badly the nail is bitten... you dont have to take any of the contact area away - but you can - if you need to! :!:

Going back to the thickness. I think what I was sent is the old packaging and the tips are the original thickness. I think as well as the new packaging the tips are advertised as radically thinner or words to that effect.
I know some people cut them and don't blend but I am a blender so I need to preserve my fingers and files:smack:

I had a terrible nail biter and I needed the length of the Formation to reach the natural nail on one side. I cut the tip to where I needed it so I didn't have to blend the whole lot. Once blended you couldn't see a single join line:Grope:
I agree with Mrs Geek How can you not blend especially the Eclipse which is so huge and chunky??

Sorry I meant velocity, If I am doing a tip and overlay on nail biter than will use velocity although Lately I have neen gently blending but not completly as my white powder from zone one covers my ghost shadow, or if I am using opaque in z2 and 3 I dont blend atall.

When using formation can you just place and overlay no blending atall, would that nail not lift as acrylic is on tip and not nail plate as this is the strength. Sorry Samantha having a blonde moment lol x

Of course that is fine and Opaque does hide the unblended tip but I would still suggest to pre-tailor (just take a black grit over the whole tip to thin it if you are not blending thoroughly.

The Formation Tip has full contact specifically for damaged / mishapen nails needing enhanced coverage. You would use a more thicker viscosity adhesive to 'fill in the gaps' over the bitten area like GelBond. But, you really must blend otherwise it will look horrible and even though Opaque powders may cover the 'look' you would get a mishapen look to the overall finish plus - it's the correct procedure to do!! :)
