Hello everyone ;)

Just a quick question regarding CND nail polishes. I have been a long user of OPI polishes and I do love them! But there are a few colours that I really like in the CND collection and I have never got around to buying them. I have been reading all about Shellac, and watching all of the videos and reviews but I do come out of this a little worried. Seeing as they are stating that nail polish looks good for 'one day' according to the shellac video, chips (peels off with a key???), smudges and overall just looks bad after a few days, Is this what they are saying about their products (as I know for one that OPI colours do this VERY rarely!)?

Should I just save up for Shellac and skip the CND polishes?

Also another small question, the photos on the CND website show someone drilling off nail colour? Is this what you have to do with CND polish?

Thanks

HDC :D

I did think the same! :D
Im sure I was waxed lyrical about the staying power of their polish range and yet the Shellac advertising suggests polish is not good!! hehe

However i do have the "vintage" colours as the new Colour&Effects and i can honestly say that they are really good. Excellent application, one coat covers really well, fast drying and wear lovely.

I also brought shellac too but am waiting to recieve that tomorrow :D

The picture your on about is trying to show how other color gels have to be drilled/filed off....of course no enamel is ever drilled off.

CND are not saying that enamel is no good, why would they when they make great enamels, especially the new range of color effects...enamel will always have its place, but Shellac is just another option.

i have the colour and effects range. nearly all my enhancement clients have a colour on and they come back two weeks later with it still on and looking great! Buy a couple and try them. You'll love them. I use cnd stickey base coat and cnd super shiney top coat too. X x

Not saying enamel is no good??? Have you seen these photos? The First Hybrid Nail - CND

The way they are making polish look in my opinion, is that it is really bad and you have to go for Shellac for a good finish, well at least if you are choosing from the CND product line. I know this is not true with OPI as I use there polish every day.

I am now confident that I am able to use CND polish with no problems, but does make me wonder about how legit the advertising is with Shellac, and maybe some false advertising. IMHO, nails never look like the advertised image 'before Shellac' unless you use a stupidly cheep nail varnish! And will light ever shine off a nail like that in the image 'with Shellac'? Computer image enhancements anyone? :lick:. Nail varnish to peel off a nail like wallpaper off a wall? I have never seen that, and I have tried my fair share of polishes! But okay, I have seen polish wear off in the image of the nail above the keyboard.

By all means, I am sure that Shellac is going to be a FANTASTIC product, but the advertising, maybe a bit misleading. You would have thought that a company so 'market leading' in the industry would not have to do this to make people interested in buying their products.

But I am off to buy some CND polishes :D

I agree with you so much - the advertising seems wrong... good product, but bad advertising...

yes i have seen them....are they saying anything that isn't true....? do nails that have been polish with enamel never smudge then...?....do some other color gels never have to be filed off...? do nails polished with enamel never chip...?

They are not making any false claims.....

How often have we polished a clients nails and then had them sat waving their hands around whilst they dry and knock then on something and ruin our hard work...? or walk out carrying their car keys by 12 ginger and thumb scared to touch anything...

This is what they are saying....with Shellac all these things are no more....but if using enamel is working for you and your clients then fine...keep using it....but we have to move on don't we...keep getting bigger and better things and thats what they have done with Shellac.

How is it....???.....what are they saying thats wrong or bad....isnt everything they are saying true....havent we all experienced the examples they are showing ??

They are marketing Shellac in a completely different way because it is NOT a polish, nor is it a gel. The video is promoting (brilliantly I may add) the postive effects that using SHELLAC can bring to the wearer who has had poor manicures in the past and also poor enamel application. We have ALL had one of those. Shellac is different for all the reasons mention - zero dry time, no chips, 14 day wearability.

Of course there is still a place for nail polish... CND would be crazy not have that and especially after introducing Colour & Effects last September. But as I have said... SHELLAC is not nail polish but has the added benefit of going on like one.

As to the marketing shot with the drill... if you look in the S2 cat you will see a SAY GOODBYE / SAY HELLO campaign that shows 'wearing nail polish', chips etc... Not only is Shellac a hybrid form of polish / gel, it's removal techniques are absolutely unique. You do not need files, buffers or efiles to remove. They are making a point - SAY GOODBYE TO EFILES / BUFFING OFF etc and SAY HELLO TO SHELLAC REMOVER WRAPS (also on the video).

Finally - if you look in Scratch this month, the first ad you will see is SAY GOODBYE with a nail that looks dinged / smudged etc and further along into the magazine, another ad that says HELLO to SHELLAC.

We all know that 'normal' nail polish doesn't last perfectly on natural nails, for 14 days. SHELLAC UV3 technology does - really!!! ;)

Hope this helps!

I think i am the sort of person the ad campaign appeals to to be honest, from a customer point of view.
Now i may get a fab manicure BUT i am a very busy mum to a very active 2 year old. I was also until recently a nursery nurse and constantly had my hands in and out of water so for me each scenario is part of why i never wear enamel.
If i do wear it, 9 times out of 10 its smudged within the first 20 mins- i cant keep still long enough to let it dry properly.
Then after a few days because i'm so rough on my hands it does start to chip- i dont wear gloves when i should, my hands are in cleaning products/ water/ paint/ glue- all sorts day in day out and no enamel i have tried has lasted more then a few days looking good.
So i have to disagree, i think the advertising is relevant.
I cant wait to get shellaced!

Why not give your clients the chance to choose?????

Shellac is not a polish it's different.
I wouldn't use Shellac on a client that likes to change the colour every few days. This could be either the natural nail or enhancement client. I would use either colour effects, for layering and getting different fab catwalk looks or my CND enamels for some standard colour applications. We all know that polish on enhancements last always longer, as we are painting on artificial base, here colour will possibly wear a tad at the free edge, no big problem.

Shellac is aimed at the unclaimed natural nail client, you know the walking pound note that just keeps walking past your shop because she hates the drying time, hates having to think about her nails and wants to run out the door without worrying that her polish will smudge because she has to fetch the kids from school or has to go to the shops and thinks why bother, just can't sit still for long enough,so in short a client who thinks that all that manicuring is just basically a waste of time as she has never had a successful manicure that lasted 14 days for one reason and another.
Yes she knows that there are Gel Polishes out there, but she doesn't want the nails prepped, so the gel buff off or soak off alike will adhere..... so Shellac is for her and hundreds of women like her!!!!!

So now you have the 3rd option!!!! a colour for nails, on like polish, wears like gel, natural nail is protected and still looks good after use and abuse.
Shellac is not a gel and it's not a polish, it contains monomers, polymers and oligomers to give you UV3.

I have CND enamels, I have CND colour effect and I have Shellac, my clients love that they have a choice now...
Just the way I see it xxxxx that's it Voddy and Orange for me now xxxx

I have clients who have french NNO...then have then painted in a colour that they can take off at home after a week and still have their french NNO.....they love having colour for 1 week...then french..then they might paint them again at home themselves...untill they come back to me for their rebalance...so there is no way Shellac will replace my enamels....i need BOTH
