Hi all,

Newbie to this section of the forum as I'm considering adding a few more strings to my bow :D

I just wondered if anyone has had any experience of Cobra hair academy? I'm wondering if you can obtain insurance after attending their courses as the site implies that it's possible-but also states that prospective students do their own legwork prior to enrolling as it's out of their control...

Thanks in advance

I just looked at Cobra Academy the course I can see is a 5 day course. This is no where long enough for a beginner about 29 weeks short actually. Most courses for beginners will be about 18 weeks for cutting or 30 weeks to include colour as well these are 5 days a week. If they offer longer courses that would be better for you.
To be honest loads of salons want qualifications nowdays I do know some of the big chains will not employe someone without the NVQ. If you just want insurance you will be able to get it.

Yeah I looked at them because they offer one to one training too. I thought if they were reputable you might be able to get insurance...maybe not. Thanks though :D

A friend of mine did a 5 day barbering course at cobra, 2 weeks later she had the opportunity to rent her own salon! She's taken the opportunity anyway and doing quite well, so you must be able to get insurance x

I'm thinking of doing my cut throat shaving course with them and if you look on thier website they are members of the British Barbers Association and other organisations so I'm sure their courses would insurable. Checked with my insurance and they will cover me.

Cobra Hair Academy courses hold a superb reputation for professional training and are members of respected professional industry trade bodies.

There are many different paths of training into the industry and a fast track course if taught expertly by recognised professionals such as the tutors at Cobra provide entry level skills into working within the trade, either employed or self employed as a mobile hairdresser or business owner.

All their courses are fully insurable with one of the UK's leading professional hairdressing insurers, who will provide either personal cover if working mobile or in salon or shop / salon cover if opening your own business. Many of their students do, as other posters have noted, enrol upon Cobra training and successfully run their own businesses afterwards or work in an employed capacity.

Cobra's integrity and dedication to teaching the highest standards is noted in the students experiences of our courses, as can be seen on their website and on independently monitored sites such as Emagister, where they are classified as a Top Provider. To be such means an education facility must adhere to certain standards and quality.

Additionally the academy are members of respected professional hairdressing trade bodies such as the British Barbers Association, The National Hairdressers Federation, The Beauty Guild, BABTAC and much more.

To opeate a private school means that the standards must be high as students are paying fees and a private school would not last long if they were not delivering what they promise with regulatory bodies like Trading Standards etc and Insurance companies would not insure questionable courses.

All prospective students can freely check any companies credibility with Trading Standards and Cobra are proud to hold an excellent reputation and we also offer all students the opportunity to make an appointment and view the school, meet the tutors and students on the courses to help them make their decision.

Cobra's education team are a selection of industry leading experts with credible backgrounds in high end elite global professional education, trained above and beyond NVQ assessor level and hold an reputation within the hairdressing industry for expertise and skill, training thousands of students.

Their courses are advertised nationally and Ebay is a credible business forum with many of the UK's leading stores and companies now on Ebay, and Cobra is no different, with their business listed in the Hairdressing section.

As a professional school they advise all students to chose what path is right for them and those that choose Cobra are guaranteed an enjoyable and educational experience of the highest standards, and will be fully insurable upon course completion.

Hi
Having just recently graduated from Cobra Hair Academy on a Barbering and Wet shave course I thought I’d better set the record straight!
Firstly if you are thinking of enrolling “stop thinking and do it’’ I enrolled about 4 weeks ago and was sceptical as it was a 5 day fast track but now having been on the course there was no need to be.

As a complete beginner with no previous hairdressing/barbering experience I was very nervous but as soon as I met all the other student who were also beginners the nerves quickly disappeared. Every day was perfectly structured and the classes are small so we all got equal amounts of 1 2 1 tuition when needed. We had live demo’s every day then practical every day and also worked on live models which was provided for us unlike some other courses I had looked at who just work on block heads for the full entire course.

Everybody at the end of the week was cutting like pro’s, it’s truly AMAZING and I still can’t believe it.

Since graduating I am now working in a Leading Male Grooming Salon, not a little back street £3 er short back and side’s salon renting a chair. I find my self looking through salon windows at other barbers at work on my days off and feel like taking the clippers and scissors off them and showing them how to do it correctly… :0)

I can honestly say this has been the best decision I have made in a long time!

From stepping into the academy I was made to feel at home and everyone was so lovely. The course is intense but very well structured but most of all enjoyable!

So to all the people who are posting negative comments I’m so sorry but you’re wrong! And I am living proof. May be you should enrol on the course to find out for your self’s then there be no need for the negative comments. I no it’s sound so hard to believe but honestly this course is well worth the money and you will defiantly make the money back have you have paid for it with a month are two like I am.

So to all the people who are thinking of enrolling GO FOR IT you will not be disappointed at all, you will have a brilliant time and come away from the course being a brilliant Barber/hairdresser.

Everybody at the end of the week was cutting like pro’s,

funniest thing ive read all year!!!!

I'd like to see someone try and take the scissors of me to "show me how to cut properly" after a 5 day course!!!!!!!

IF it were true, a whole new trade and a top end salon all in 5 days, then this nees the attention of the press. What a gobsmacking success story for them to report. Everyone loves a success story so I will mention it to my friend Jane who is a reporter for the daily mail. Would be great publicity for the cobra peeps too.

I think your success from the course is fab,i did a 5 day course in nails with creative n after practice practice practice i soon picked it up!i did an apprentaship in a hairdressses n as i was older i was fast tracked so learnt alot fast which was best 4 me but my boss began t think she owned me n when i got pregnant forced me to leave n ever since iv really missed hairdressing (well training to be one) so maybe a similar fast track course would be good 4 me! N if people have got nothing nice or constructive to say maybe you should say nothing at al!! Xx

Hi ya,

In response to the 2 negative comment's below my new post all I want to say back to you is that as two qualified professionals your not being very professional. Am sure glad I don’t work in a salon with either of you two, there’s far two much bitchiness going on in them and this is just a perfect example of that!

And as far as taking the clippers out of other barbers hands, I did not mean it to come across malicious , am sure you two have watched other people in your profession and watched were they are going wrong and would like to step in and show them the correct way or maybe easier way. I wasn't pulling down these people at all.

Having just qualified over 4 weeks ago and done nothing but cut hair since everything is still fresh in my head, I no people will adapt there own methods’ of cutting hair like I have but you just cant help noticing when somebody is going wrong.

I did this course as I was made redundant from work like a lots of other people these's days and was finding it very hard to bring up my little girl and having wanted to go into barbering for many years it all just clicked for me and I found it all very easy to take in.

I'm very confident in what I do and I’m always looking to improve my self and am sure I will never stop learning which I’m very eager too.
Maybe you should try a little encouragement ladies am sure it wouldn't go a miss instead of sat on here pulling people down.

And Annie yes I think this course would be brilliant for you and having done a little bit of hairdressing before you should fly through :)

Sarah

Totally agree, the bitchiness that goes on in salons give hairdressers a bad name n put young girls off wanting to join the industry..sad really x

Not sure why this, nearly 12 month old thread, has been ressurrected, by a couple of new members. Is there an agenda here?
