Hi Geeks (I did do a search on this, however unable to find the answers I am looking for)

I have a client who wears l&p enhancements and at times likes to have a colour gel over the top instead of nail enamel.

I finish l&p with 180g file - remove all dust filings - apply colour gel - cure - 2nd coat colour gel - cure - top coat - cure. (I do ensure all edges are capped)

Problem: within a week the colour gel is chipping and peeling away from the l&p in large chunks.

question: (a) what do you geeks do?
(b) Am I missing something? do I need to prime - thin layer of clear gel - remove inhibition layer - file 180g - apply colour etc
(c) is colour gel not designed for going over l&P?

I have used NSI and a generic gel brand - both with the same problem.

I appreciate the advice and thank you in advance.

Make sure you dont buff the nail to the point where it's completely smooth, use a medium buffer to finish the nail if you're going to be applying a gel polish. as well, i noticed in your steps you havent used a base gel before applying your color. Applying base gel BEFORE your gel color will make the color adhere better to the L&P. HTH!

try cleansing the nails after your filing rather than just dusting and use a very thin layer of clear worked well into the nail and cured before applying the colour gel.

Just to add, tradition Gel is a quite different chemical structure compared to L&P so you will find they do not bond in the same manner, each is designed to bond to primer which in turn bonds to keratin. Results therefore are going to be unpredicatable and no company is going to be able to train in a 'gauranteed result' manner how to do so...

NB. the only exception I know of is BRiSA by CND which is the same chemical structure as CND Liquid & powder

Not very helpful, but should shed a bit of light on the 'why'
