HI,
I have only been doing nails a short time and I would love to be able to produce a set like those. Like I said I have only been doing them for a short time but dose some of the sidewalls need a little filing? I don't want to sound like I am picking faults because I am not, they are a lovely set if nails and i wish you all the luck in the competition.

Take care Hunni:lol:

I am no expert in comp nails, they look so good and the smiles are to die for. From what I see they just need the sidewalls taking in just a tiny bit to straighten them out. Other experienced techs will give better feedback though xxx

Yeh you are both absolutely right, the sidewalls do look like they need bringing in...but if I had filed them in I would lose the corners of my smile. Its difficult to explain and you cant see it properly in the pic, but I think this would be corrected by pinching the sidewalls in to create a better c curve??

Problem is I dont know when to pinch?

A slightly clearer and bigger picture would help more too, its fine in general, but if it was clearer we'd be able to see things such as air bubbles/file marks, much better

even tho I'm no judge lol x

I will be totally honest i promise ! Overall from what i can see they look prety good but they do need slimming down a little, the white is flaring out just a bit. The smiles need to be a little deeper and crisper also. I cant comment on the shine as it looks like there is oil all over them which you probably wont be able to use, depending on the catagory you are entering? If its for 'salon nails' i would say they are slightly too long as well.
Overall though - good job, good luck

It really is trial and error, practice practice practice, and you will find out when the right time to pinch is. Are you thinning out your tip before you apply it?

Thanks Kate, do you think the flaring look would be corrected by pinching? Should have taken a side view pic! I was going to enter top tech newcomer, sculpted. Thanks for advise on smiles, I wouldn't have known to do them deeper than that. I think I also pulled the pink over a bit, so thats why they not crisp. Will work on that, thanks!

Have u tried reverse application, that way your pink wouldn't be pulled over the white???

itotally agree with whats already been said regarding your sidewall and smile lines being slightly deeper.i also feel that they dont all look consistant eg.the white on the middle finger looks different i think it may be slightly longer?
i think these are a great start and i also agree about the reverse application.ive been having a try with it and its really made a difference to my whites.im just not sure if you are allowed to use it in comps?
good luck hun.x

They do fan out quite a bit, pinching would help this as you are sculpting,
pinching is something that you need to practise,
do one sculpt and watch the product, it will go from shiny to a dull appearance,
depending on how wet you work the time will differ but when it starts to go dull is when you pinch,
you will feel if it is right, you don't want it to be sticky still,
and use pinching rods for under the free edge, this will give you a perfect C curve, hth

overall they look a bit too bulky also, they need to be really sleek,
comp nails are totally opposite to what you do in the salon,

Hey Stonester, your practice is going well. Definately NO oil. I would add a little more white to the `ears` too. Bring your sides in with the file under the white (IYKWIM) to save losing your ears. Have you been painting one hand red cos that will let you see them with a different view as well.As for pinching (this is what I do) I do my nail, do the white on the next nail, and then go back and pinch the first one. Im not sayin thats right, but it works for me HTH
Keep up the good work XXXXXXXXXXX

If your model has nice pink nailbeds could you use clear product instead of pink so you get a really crisp smile line.
