Hi All, I still cant get a hang of if I'm posting things in the right place but I am trying my best! I also tryed a search before posting this. (check me!!)

Last year i entered the photographic competition for professional beauty. I had only just qualified and kinda threw myself in the deep end to see what would happen!

I had to do a step by step to a company my photo, i did but it was basic and just covered how i achived the photo. When i saw my score for the step by step it was low. Having said this i have noooo idea how to improve and what judges look for in a step by step (its fruststrating!).

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks Sara

Have you checked out Sam Biddles blogspot...and her articles in Scratch about how to go about photographing your work.

they like to see photographic step by steps of how you created your look, where your ideas came from including Internet research, photos, test photos, test nails, as much info in there as possible, the front cover has to match the theme, the best step by steps ive ever seen, are from kirsty meakin and jo coats.

That is great advice, thank you so much. I recently started to get scratch on subscription too so i will be keeping a close eye out in that. Thank you again.

Step by steps should be about 4-6 pages long, normally done on a computer, although hand done is good to, presented in a small clip file, or tag bound etc, like a mini booklet.
Start with your general design idea, where it came from, your inspiration. Go on to say what products you used, ie colours of polish.
Explain your design and how you created it, it does not have to be complicated. Write about the "scence setting", your model, props etc.
Photos of you doing the nails or getting ready for the shoot are great!

It helps the judges understand the work that went into creating the photo but most important, it confirms the photo is YOURS and not pinched from the internet!!!!!!

Hope that helps!
