Afternoon all..
I found it very useful reading through all your posts when I was looking for a nail course to do (went to CND, really enjoyed it!) so I thought I would get your valued opinions again.

My real passion is make up, and I would like to find the best course for me to take me from enthusiastic amateur, to professional.

I am currently employed full time and living in London. Extensive research has still left me with lots of options and I am really confused!

Have any of you trained in London? any recommendations, or ones to avoid?- I mean, I would love to do the full course at Greasepaint, but cuoldn't afford it, or get the time off. I have seen other schools like the AOFM and London Make up academy - which does night courses, but I worry these wont be comprehensive enough.

You must get questions like this every day, but really keen to get myself started on my new career now I have finally decided what it is I want to do with my life!
Any replies or advice would be most gratefully recieved.

Blimey! That greasepaint course is verrrrrr expensive!
What about the Jemma Kidd course?

I know!
I went to the open day, and was chatting to a girl who said she had given up her job and remortgaged her house to do it! I was like, um, I don't have a house, oh. So the next one I thought about was the fashion course at Greasepaint, which is still about 5 grand, but would it be best to go for the priciest course? Does that make it the best? Then there seem to be a few courses that last about three weeks (beauty base, Jemma Kidd, AoFM etc) which would mean I could keep my job on and just use up all my holidays, but is three weeks long enough?
I really want to make sure I am properly equiped for my career change and have to confidence to get out there!
Then there is the evening course at the LMA which is three or four night a week for w few hours, but I worry this will be too fragmented?

Oh dear! I also want to do an airbrushing course if you can recommend anything?
Thank you so much for the reply!

I'm currently studying the 17 week VTCT cosmetic makeup certificate at night school. I'm not entirely convinced about the course. We have a tutor who told us to go and research "laguna" hair... And the girls on the course are clearly floundering at the shallow end of the gene pool. That said - you do get plenty of hands on make up practice time, and it's relatively inexpensive. Maybe try your local colleges to see what they can offer.
Good luck

Oh thank you! i'll have a look into that. At the moment I am looking to do the Greasepaint airbrushing course (pricier, but includes your own machine) and then the three week course at the AOFM - which seemed to have the most hours of tutoring for your money.

Right, now all I need is some cash!

Hi, Just a little market research amongst you makeup geeks. I'm Just starting up doing spray tans and done a couple of succesful ones already (I know, and I'm a man too! lol) However, I want to add strings to my bow!
For a couple of years now I've been doing quite a bit of custom airbrushing (Helmets,Guitars etc) and had a idea that i might like to try airbrush make up, either for girls or guys. I'm pretty confident in my ability in using an airbrush to achieve fine detail etc. Is there any of of you who wouldn't consider letting a guy apply your make up, providing he knew what he was doing of course. I'm thinking that its going to be difficult to persuade females to let me spray tan them for obvious reasons, although I do have a couple of willing volunteers apart from my wife! Once I get my head around the theory of shades/blending etc I pretty sure I could apply as good as the next man/woman, hope that doesn't sound too cocky, I just love airbrushing!
I was looking at the AOFM airbrushing course.
Any feedback would be fab.
Russ

It wouldn't worry me in the slightest. Some of the best known hairdressers are men (I know this isn't hairdressing, lol).
