Of late, I've been seriously considering the transition of working from home to working in a salon.

I know that there's TONNES of business I'm missing out on because I'm not in "plain site" and I can't take walk-ins that are potential regulars.

That said.... for those that have done both: worked from home and worked in a salon..... what did you find to be the greatest differences and challenges.
AND which did you prefer in the Salon: Renting a space OR being an employee.

Looking forward to your replies.

THANKS

i went into a salon and even though the lady who owned was lovely i just couldnt settle , i was getting the other nail techs horriffic bodge jobs .. and i do mean horriffic !! so much so i was spending all my time sorting her crap adn not doing any of my own apart from a few , i got sick of it and left so i am deffo sticking to working for mylsef , if i go into salon again it will be as an owner , lol x

Hi,
can I just say your very beautiful, if thats you in your pic : )

I have worked in salons since i was 15,Ive also rented space in a salon, and now i am working mobile, and i really love it, i do also give my clients the option of coming to my home, if it suits them,
but i have to say most of my clients love the fact that i can travel to them.
I wouldnt go back to working in a salon for all the tea in china(and i love tea)

My next step of my career plan, is to open my own salon, but I read so much on here about staffing problems,I may change my mind when ive actually tried it.
I think it has alot to do with ones own personality too, I dont like being told what I can do, where, and when. And I like to be in charge, i suppose im a bit of a control freak, lol

maybe you could try the salon option as a trial, and see how it goes,
All the best.

LOL Thanks Endless! but you need glasses... tonnes of makeup on me LOL

Yes, I love being my own boss and calling the shots.
BUT then there's the stress of being in charge of : stock, accounting, advertising, cleaning, marketing, etc etc etc...............
I wonder if there isn't some kind of 'in-between'? I would HATE to pay rent and no walk-ins show up. That would drive me insane. Hence why I considered the "employee' option.

Lots of food for thought.
I just know that this "home" thing is not enough for me now. I want more. I want bigger.. Maybe that's why I lost my passion for a while.....

I'll keep thinking and weighing the pros and cons and looking forward to other replies.

mmmmmm well how about opening a salon and getting some one in to do the admin stuff and to 'manage', leaving you to be senior nail technician ????????????

I was thinking of that.
OR
Finding a tech or two to 'partner' with (which is a GREAT risk considering how most are educated here in quebec.......) and rent a space together.. etc....

I don't know...... so many options.. so many risks...... EEKS.

Go for it.................. what ever 'it' turns out to be , think you are ready for a real head rush, exciting yet terrifying JUMP........................
