Hello fellow geeks!!

May be a strange question but Wondering if anyone can help me......

Recently, whenever i am doing nails my nose constantly runs and i am forever blowing it! I also sneeze a bit. I've always been a bit of a sneezer so that doesn't bother me too much, but i'm worried i may becoming allergic!!!!
I work from home and have a small room. I'm not sure if it may be the ventilation?!

Any ideas of what i could do to prevent this happening to my poor nose as its getting sore from all the blowing!!

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Tasha,
Firstly could it be hayfever the pollen count as been high ?? If its like this in the winter months though I think you need to make sure you have good ventilation when working invest in a good extractor.

I can't offer advice,
But I can let you know, you are not alone, only my nose doesn't run, it gets reeeeeAAAALLLLYYY itchy.
The minute I start nails..the itching starts..it drives me mad

Hi tasha I have the same problem and I even had it in the winter months in the salon I worked in. I too am forever blowing my nose and half the time there is nothing there it just feels like there is, I do moblie and have to remember to take tissue with me as I hate having to ask clients for it So you are not alone lol.

Oh pheeew, I thought I was crazy.
Mine gets itchy and I get sneezy..
Glad to know I wasn't imagining things.

:green:

I get a runny nose when doing manicures, pedicures, facials, eye treatments and waxing! Not just runny, but drippy! I just keep blowing my nose and rubbing in more sanitising gel, and apologising to the client!

Not sure about the last post but the key word here is 'overexposure'!!

All of you should be more than aware of this as professionals! You need to search on here about the subject and start wearing dust masks, correctly fitted, NOW.

This reaction will have long tern effects and could result in you having to stop working as a nail technician.

Do not take this situation lightly!

I understand totally Marian,
However I personally get an itchy nose often,
Especially when brushing my teeth :irked:
I suffer LOTS of allergies though, I am on inhalers, allergy tablets, and also I have been addicted to a nasal spray since the age of 16 :o

"oooooh the feeling the pinch thread geeks will understand this...
I think I have just found a use for my spare roll of bubble wrap !!!! :green:)

While I do agree with taking extra precautions when working, could it not just be a "head down" thing with some of you?

With my itchy nose, it can begin the second I park my bum at the table...before products are opened..
I think It's all in my head lol.

I wear a professional dust mask with the european highest dust protection I get mine off the net they are FF2 or ff3 marked there white and very light and this has completely solved the problem. Also keep it on when your cleaning up. These masks look just like a regular mask and are brilliant. Hope this helpsxxx

This is not difficult really is it?

Those who have never had a problem before and do have a problem when they do nails are irritating the lining of their nose with the dust they are inhailing. End of story.

Why do you think responsible manufacturers recommend EXTRACTION ventillation? AND always have done. It is not for their health it is for yours. Get it fitted and use it or do the good quality mask thing ... but stop breathing in the dust. No dust is good to breath. Nail dust is no exception.

Ah well....

my runny nose happens as soon as I am looking down - especially nails but not just nails.

My clients always have a hanky at the ready.

I learned to live with it - but may just start wearing a mask to see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

I agree that i do need better ventilation, but when i think about it, it is when i have my head down.

I'm defo gonna get myself some kind of good ventilation system! Can anyone recommend one?!?!?

x

I have the same problem.........well kind of. I always have a runny nose no matter what I do. I have tissues all over the place and sometimes it gets embarassing as I can feel it trickling, sorry i'm been horrible.
