Hi seems to me I'm posting alot on here these days:confused:

I know that wearing contact lenses isn't very good when doing nails, because of the dust and vapours when, but is this when you use long term lenses or is this also something to worry about when you use everyday lenses? (changes them daily)

I do wear glasses, but in the summer i like to use sunglasses outside, and have lots of those, so like to wear contacts, that way I can change the sunglasses easily...

Hope someone can help me with this one...

thanks:hug:

If you do a search this has already been discussed before..Contact lenses..

I wear monthlys but not doing nails every day,Im sure dailies would be better to wear though.I hate wearing glasses n I hate wearing contact lenses,Ive looked in to laser but my optician said I would probly have to wear reading glasses after..ggrrr!!

i would imagine that dailies would be better,

i wear annual lenses, so try not to wear them when im working
but i have to say my glasses are scratched to high heaven from wiping dust off them
when i put them on it looks like its foggy!!!

which i could see without the need for them
boo hoo

I did a search but couldn't find anything speciffic, maybe due to my english not being my first language?
Feel like I found anything but about this subject, this being about massage etc. so when i'm not reading that fast in english it seams a very difficult task for me to read through all of the posts, when they didn't have anything obvious about this subject in the first few posts. So sorry for posting this question again, but really wanted to know this

Here is one link to a thread about contact lenses, it also includes two other thread links for you to read:-

http://www.salongeek.com/nail-geek/57589-contact-lenses.html

On a personal note, I wear contacts and have done for 19 years, 4 of which I have been a nail tech and suffered no problems. As a monthly disposable lens wearer I have 6 monthly check ups, my optician knows my job, we have discussed the possible issues and my personal sight problems and agree lenses work best for me*.

Having also done some experimenting at home (in my bathroom, so nothing clinical) contact lenses do not melt in monomer so splashing is no more, or less, of an issue for someone who doesn't wear them. They do melt in acetone as you would expect.

Both of the above situations could be easily avoided if both tech and client practised good safety precautions and wore safety glasses.

*Please note this is specific to me, not to be taken as me giving this advice to anyone else. If in doubt please do your own research and speak to your own trusted optician or medical practictioner.

My previous job was as an Optometric Assistant, and one of my regular duties was contact training, care and application.

With my background in this field, all my studies and instructions from the doctors.....if it was me who had to choose between contacts and glasses in a salon environment, there would be no competition.

I would never wear contacts in this environment.

We used to instruct our patients to remove their lenses before using any solvents for household cleaning, and dusty environments.

I have seen the other side, and believe me-you don't want to be there.

I guess it's like any risk-taking activity, some people never seem to suffer any consequences for their actions, while others have to pay dearly.

In my personal and professional opinion I would strongly suggest that no one wears contact lenses while applying nails. It's not worth the risk.

Thank you so much for all of your answers...
Now I just have to decide for myself...

Read Douglas Schonnes book there is a chapter in there about wearing contact lenses when you are in contact with chemicals, the wapor will stick to your lenses and it dosn´t matter if it is day to day lenses, the wapor will still sit on the lenses and damage the eye..

Oh missed the part about daylies,:irked: actually only thought he wrote about monthly or longer term lenses...
I will stop wearing lenses then, so by by sunglasses:cry: maby I will save for a lasersurgery oof the eye...

I wear lenses for like 10 years, monthly ones, and qualified 2 yrs ago, and have never had any problem, nor any warning from my optician.
tho they know my job.

they seem more worried about the nails themselves, pretty long as you can see.

but I wear glasses (except in exhibition) and have a dust cleaner stuff, and all that.

but I am thinking of having a nice eye surgery very soon :)
