Ok I know I'm going to sound very nieve but do you really need to copyright the name that your trading under????
I been using mine since January this year and I personally thought that because I have choosen my name that no one else in my area is using, and I'm using 1st that someone wouldn't come along and start using that name,,,,, I wouldn't use a name that I no some1 in my area is using.... It's just seeing some treads on here about copyright's etc it's making me open my eyes..... I'm working so hard let alone the money that I'm puting into it I don't want someone to come along and take my name...... I just thought that if I'm using the name out and have been since January no1 locally can use it?????
Some one asked me the over day that also works for herself, that she liked the name and is it copyright..... just makes you think abit.
And how do you go about copyrighting??????

Thanks

yes you can pay to get your name registered. I am sure some geek will know the address.

I'm working so hard let alone the money that I'm puting into it I don't want someone to come along and take my name.
But why would they want to, it wouldn't make sense?

Personally I think copyrighting is a waste of money. Even if somebody did really want to use a copyrighted name they could probably just add an 's' to the end, add another 'e' somewhere, change an 's' to 'z' etc etc and get away with it.

There is no ruling to this unless you get it patented, or copywrighted. I think, which costs lots. mmmmmm Im sure unless you are a ltd company aswell you cant do much about it. Not to sure though mmm going to ask my hubby now, who im sure knows lol xxx

In an ideal world its best to get copyright protection however that said it generally applies to bigger business or where you could see your business /idea/image or thing being big and that everyone would want to copy it and therefore rip you off.

Im afraid as far as your business type is concerned this is something that in reality isn't really going to happen on a national/international basis and the only real possible threat is ,as you have already identified, someone local to you could copy your name and try to take your customers away from you under the pretence of being you.

If this is your only threat then quiet frankly you are safe as this would be deemed as "passing off" and you would likely easily be able to stop them without having any copyright protection in place

I would therefore suggest your relatively safe and best focusing on growing your business which further endorses your position making it even harder for someone to copy

Good luck

look here Intellectual Property Office - Trade marks it costs around 300 quid if my memory serves me right:irked: but have a look at the" before you apply" bit and try your business name 1st to see if any body else is using your name already for class 3 beauty products ect hth

Thanks that's great
