Hi Guys, need your opinion on this, sorry if its long....

Well i'm currently working in a call centre which is thriving (1000+ employees), i know that they have abit of money to play with as they are always doing various incentives and promotions and put an emphasis on well being.......

so saying that... i'm going to propose to them that they bring in a therapist to do corporate on site massage (que me, lol). I've done this before by the way.
I'll tell them the benefits of such services to their business, and how stress affects businesses and that effective stress management is essential to protect staff and the business.

I thought that this would be a good idea as i've got my beauty/massage experience as well as experience as being an agent and sitting in front of the computer all day, so i'm able to tailer a specific massage routine to suit their needs.

I have previously charged £300 for the full day, which consisted of:
9am Start, 5pm Finish
1 hour lunch break
x2 15 min breaks
Each massage session would last 10 mins only

I was going to offer a discount also:
£300 As a 1 off session
£275 For 2 days a month, eg. 1 session every 2 wks
£250 For 4 days a month, eg. 1 session every wk.

What do you think to this? does it sound reasonable, or do you think i'm being greedy?, lol.

Also, sorry to bore you!!
In past experience, theses big companies take ages to pay!!!
My company always use capital bonds as incentives, so i wouldn't mind being paid in these as you can use them in most shops. Does this mean that i would still have to register as self employed if i get paid in these vouchers?? I'm not sure.

Any comments, suggestions, ideas welcome, good or bad. Honest opions please, thanks. xXx

Yes and you'll have to pay tax and NI on it.

You, obviously never declared this to HMRC then!

No Jess, i've just not explained myself properly.

I did have my own salon and also did corporate massage before and was registered with HMRC, but now i dont have my salon (i've not had it for 6 months now), and not been doing any treatments since i have notified HMRC of the date that i stopped being self employed. I'm working full time at this call centre, and just wondered as to whether i would need to re- register with HMRC thats all!

I've run a Corporate Massage business for over 10 years. We are London based but have clients across the UK. TBH, if they will pay those prices then you are very lucky, that is considerably more than we charge. I would also add, that 9 -5 is too long. You can't possibly give good treatments for that long. Do you do the acupressure chair massage - how long are your sessions. If 30 minutes, then I would say 10 (max 12) per day is enough for any therapist. If 20 minutes, then 15 /16 is the max amount. (ps - a 30 minute session is actually a 30 minute massage and a 20 minute session is a 15 minute massage).

Good luck

sorry, just read you did 10 minute sessions. I honestly don't know how you can give that many good treatments a day and not be dropping. What sort of massage do you do? It's important to pace yourself or you will burn yourself out doing this sort of work. As well as doing it myself, I also hire other therapists and I've had a couple who have done too much and suffered the consequences.

Yes, income (even if in kind) is still income. If you are not registered as self employed I assume you are not working as a self employed therapist - do you have insurance?

I agree with the day being far too long, also in recession I think you'd be very lucky to get £300 a day. I'd say maybe charge by the hour, and say you want a minimum of x amount of hours...people are cutting back and jobs are going right now so this way the client can pick and choose their hours obviously pick what they want. Good luck!

I agree, I have lost company funding/subsidy in all but a few corporate clients due to the recession, and while I am still going into these companies, employees are paying for the treatments themselves.
