Hi all,
Yesterday I had a man came into salon and ask if he could spare a 30sec speak to the owner. I were busy doing a client at the time so he booked to see next tuesday. I ask what's about, he said it's regarded all the salon in the area, it only take about 30mins. Because there are number of hair salon also do nails and other things while they on declared as working just hair etc...
I'm a little concerning of it. has anyone had these visited by the council before!

I'm sure you do not need to be concerned and have nothing to hide.

Just be professional and be seen to be professional.

I used to rent space within a hair salon, I had a visit there. In my area you are suppose to have an inspection 6months (this never happens though). They are just making sure you are following correct procedures etc.. Try not to worry:)

Hi

Gigi is right don't be worried, so long as everything is in order, IE your cossh, msds and health and safety policy's etc it will be fine.

I did read in the business press recently that council's are getting complaints about some hmm let say not so good nail salons so they are visiting salons to check things out, someone got there mp involved i think it may well go the way it has in London eventually.

It still won't stop the unscrupulous though unfortunately, and personally if they do bring in licensing then it should be for hair, beauty and nails. INCLUDING mobile and home salons!!!

I find it really really annoying that salons have insurance, cossh, run risk assessments etc and in general stick to the rules of there local council yet i know mobiles especially mobile hairdressers who don't even have insurance let alone declare that they are working!

Sorry i went off a little there

I'm sure you have nothing to worry about, feel grateful the council is at least concerned about what's going on in your area.

I hAD A visit by enviromental health last year and its really nothing to worry about...they are there to help and advise on health and safety matters, they will want to see your COSHH and MSDS sheets, that you have no smoking signs up, that you have adequate hand wash facilities, clean towels, salons clean, they ask about ventillation/dust extration etc.....and should they find something they feel you need to change they allow you time to do this. I found them really helpful:hug:
