Couple of questions!!

Hi, I am relatively new to all this and have been reading various different threads on here and all I have done is confused myself further !:irked: Would you very nice people be able to answer a few questions I have please??

1. I use IBD Gel, when referring to "buff off", is that for the clear builder gel used on tips? If that is the case, can't it be removed with Acetone? I have been using Acetone to take off the gel, it takes forever as I was taught to place the nails in the finger bowls and use a white block to file off the gue! Could I use the technique on here of soaking pads in acetone then placing them on the nails and covering them in foil?
2. What is Ultra seal Gel?
3. What is the difference between IBD builder gel and Calgel?

Sorry it seems like I'm rambling but it is very confusing with all the products and techniques around and as I had an absolutely appauling teacher in college, I'm learning more since I left than I did when I was there!!

a buff off gel is one that is not possible or impractical to soak off. it would not be comercially acceptable to have a product that takes forever to soak off.

I have been using Acetone to take off the gel, it takes forever as I was taught to place the nails in the finger bowls and use a white block to file off the gue! Could I use the technique on here of soaking pads in acetone then placing them on the nails and covering them in foil?

this technique is suitable for removing acrylic l/p nails or soak off gels.


2. What is Ultra seal Gel?
this is a top coat gel that applies from a polish like bottle.

3. What is the difference between IBD builder gel and Calgel?

ibd builder is a thick buff off hard gel and calgel are thin polish like colour gels that remain flexible when cured and can be soaked off .

no application is quite a bit different.

Would it be recommended I change to that?
i believe that idealy a gel tech should be offering a soak off and a file off system as they serve completly different purposes. you wont have better results with one or the other, you'll have different results.

If not, what would be the best way to remove the gel tips if still using IBD?
by simply filing away.
gel is super easy to file and its not a difficult job for a qualified technician.

Which product is Ultra Seal gel used with?
this is for use over buff off systems.
using a hard gel topcoat such as this over a soft flexible soak off gel may lead to cracking on the surface of the gel .

Thanks very much for the information, it's been really useful. I just can't believe that I was taught to take the hard gel off with acetone!! I have them on now and will attempt to file them off. Thanks again for the help .

Ultra seal is the best thing since sliced bread! I use it on my acrylics every time, saves me loads of time on filling and no buffing! It sets in about 2 min total and is rock hard ans glossy! No sticky goo to wipe off after!

As for college I feel your pain.... This one is horrid! But the only on with in 300 miles that takes State student aid. So I go there for my papers and here for a REAL education! When I move to Florida I will have more opportunity to get better training! And I hope I get to do some with CND and Young Nails down there! There is nothing in this Poe-dunk town of mine.

I empathise, sometimes I feel like I've completely wasted my time and then have to nag people on here for info!! I've learnt so much from here and nail tutorials etc, its been great.

Is Ultraseal Gel ok to use with gels or is it only with acylics?
