Hi,

I am currently 17 and want to become a qualified nail technician! I have been sat here for hours looking at courses locally to me but I am now very confused as I do not understand the courses. Most of them seem to be 3 day courses, but is this really enough time for me to learn everything??

I would really appreciate if someone could advise me on which way to go with this, thanks!

This is exactly my situation! I am your age currently studying hairdressing but I also have a passion for nails but just can't afford the best courses out there especially the CND courses which I would LOVE to be able to afford!

I studied gel nails at college years ago but have done them for about 7 years. Just purchased the edge system hoping to practice and get back up to scratch but I'm finding it way harder than I remembered. I've been thinking about doing another course as a newbie and also having problems finding the right course. I'm dying to do the CND conversion but simply can't afford it. Can anyone recommend any other (cheaper) courses? I know you get what you pay for, I'm hoping to earn some money first and save it to do the CND course. xx

Then save and wait and do it right with CND. Stop rushing ... Wait and get the best. What have you got to loose?

I went on a cheap nail course & learnt nothing! Went to london to CND & now have no probs doing gel! I've also gone back to college to do my level 3 in nails so that I can be the best at what I do? Look at local colleges & see what they have to offer & save to use CND as its the best

For me it's a decent course or non because I can't justify wasting my money on a "2day course" knowing it won't be any good! Just wish they werent so damn expensive ha il be saving my whole life for CND! x

Not true!

The CND course is fantastic value for the money, if you take the time to compare.

Everything is included in the course and in professional amounts.

No one offers a better value added course, and then add award winning education with the world's top brand .... It is worth every penny it costs, and it doesn't cost that much.

Practice badly, perform badly. In other words don't waste time and money on "cheaper" courses, bad habits are easier to break if they've never been learnt in the first place. To be the best that you can be always aim for the best education and products, the rest will fall into place if you do.
Good luck, CND are fab x

Depends what you class as expensive.

That amount is actually very little when you realise what you get for it ... All products and extras, all classes, best education, and an ITEC diploma and assessments? It costs more at a poxy college and nothing is included.

You need to do your homework on this one .. Call Sweet Squared 08452106060 and learn just what it is all about.

Even 2000 would not be over the top for the CND Creative Complete courses. And at the end of it you can get out there and get working and make your money back again pronto ... After a 2 day class you will have exactly zero ... Will not be able to work and will be left with products that end up on eBay.

It all depends at the end of the day as to whether or not you are serious about what you are doing or not. The serious ones end up at CND.

Besides the very valuable advice from others I just want to add a bit:

To all who takes cheap classes in order to make some money before taking a decent class, be aware! YOUR reputation is at risk. If you start up doing crappy nails with a crappy product, chances are people only come once or twice and what is worse THEY WILL PROBABLY REMEMBER YOU and will never return even if you later on train with a reputable company.

So that will be more than double the amount lost, not only on the crappy course and products, but also all the income lost from people not comming because you used to do bad nails. Competition is out there and people WILL talk badly about you, so is that really worth it???

It is definitely worth taking the time to save etc. I wanted to train with CND but was lucky that I work well on my own and not in a classroom setting so trained from home. I am fully confident in my skills as a nail tech but that is not to say that, given the chance, I wouldn't go with CND just for the further training and support they offer.

Sum it up properly - work out the cost of a cheaper course using cheaper products and the cost to replace them with better products once you qualify ( you cant buy direct from CND for acrylic or gel products without their training )

then work out the cost of possibly taking further 1-2-1 classes if after suport isn't included in your course price.

Then look at what CND courses offer, the kit, the classes, the unrivalled aftercare and support and you won't fail to make the right choice xx

There's no getting away from the fact that £2000 plus VAT for the CND Complete course is a big outlay for most people. However a fellow geek who's just done it was kind enough to tell me recently what products she received, and I then priced them on Ellisons' website - and it came to around £800 plus VAT. So £1200 for 14 days' training, plus the extra 2 days for the ITEC qualification, really doesn't seem too bad at all and does in fact work out cheaper than training with a lot of other reputable companies.

It's the VAT element which annoys me - an extra £400 - but we can hardly blame CND for that! And I'm assuming that the cost of the course can be put down as a legitimate business expense for tax purposes if you're going to work for yourself.

I so truely and desperatley wish to train with CND and have ready every scrap of info on the sweet squared website, but just cannot find the £1k for the naturally gel course. Does anyone know if they do payment plans? I doubt they do, but thought it worth asking. xx

If they did I would book in a flash!

Thanks for the advice I shall call them up :D

If they did payment plans that would be a major help! xxx

Im a prime example. i wanted to do a nail corse to become a nail technicion, so thats what i did, I did an A.S.P acrylic nail 4 day corse via sallys. Paid £260+ vat aswell as about £150 on all of their products that i supposedly needed. it also stated that you would recieve a nationally recognised qualifiction so i thought great. paif for the corse then went on the corse even completed the corse. I recieved my certificate the other day and lets just say im not happy. its a glossy piece of paper that i could have printed myself!.

Theres no credited badges. no qualification stated even tho i was told i would be recieveing a diploma innail technolagy, I really feel that the trainer didnt really train us much all she did was read through a manual. which i could have done myself. the corse stated we would learn white and pink acrylic all we was showed was pink acrylic. we had a demonstraition in white tip aplication. it wasnt actually taught and i had to actually ask for demonstraition in sculpting.

Needless to say , i feel like i have learnt nothing really ok yes the anaomy and written side of it i have learnt. ie all the different nail structure contra indiaction etc but the actual acrylic overlay itself i feel i could be at this same standerd had i had just practised myself a few times. I feel all that money is waisted.
As do the other 4 girls on the corse. so im currently waiting a phone call back from sallys with an update on whats happening with it. Im so dissapointed its unreal. :(

To those who want a payment plan to do the CND course ... Why not take out a proper loan to do the course and pay that back monthly ? ... It's the same thing only you would get your money from the bank instead of Sweet Squared acting as the bank!

Same thing when people ask for credit ... Best to use your credit card from the bank rather than your supplier acting like a bank.

Anything is possible if you are serious and want it badly enough.

It's a tough economic climate at the moment and of course people are struggling and of course we don't all have a few thousand pounds to splash about.

But the thing is, people seem to perceive training as a personal expense, but it's not, it's a business investment. Good training is an investment in yourself and in your business (you WILL get a lovely return on if you're dedicated), not just a personal expense like buying a new sofa. Put your business head on and think of it that way and even £2400 doesn't seem that expensive! Not even mentioning how good the value for money is.

I agree with Geeg, try to get a business or personal loan to cover the training initially. That's what I've done :)

Work smarter, not harder. Better to pay out for amazing education and do it right from the beginning than struggle with your skills for years, get a less than perfect rep and have to work harder to keep clients etc.
