Am confused! i'm a hair geek wanting to go into beauty also.
I have done a make-up course that gives me 19 CPD points towards an NVQ and insurance, but don't have a clue what that means?
Does that mean I have to get so many of these points before I can get insured etc?
please help! x

Hi, did you ever get the questions to your answers? As I am also wondering the same thing but can't find anything about the CPD points etc.

CPD points are generally for lecturers and tutors. They have to earn a certain number of points in a year to show they are expanding and updating their knowledge.

CPD points are not usually something for beauty therapists to worry about, and most insurance companies do not require them.

CPD stands for continuing professional development, therefore you cannot accrue CPD points if you do not have a qualification. In my profession (nursing) you have to do so many hours of CPD to maintain your registration, it is the same with doctors and dentists.

However, our CPD can be anything that we can relate to our practice.

With an NVQ (it's been a long time since I did one), you did various parts to it to gain your NVQ, there were no such thing as this module is so many points etc. The only points I think there is now is for UCAS applications, GCSEs, A Levels, NVQs etc all have points and you have to have so many points to get into certain uni courses. I may be wrong on the whole point and NVQ as it may have recently changed.
