Has anyone done the liquid and powder course with creative? When you were qualified where did you go from there?
Im confused as I am hoping to be a nail tech and have booked myself into this course but it doesnt seem as though I will be able to go straight from it into a job in a salon????

Loads of geeks on here have done the 5 day foundation course with creative.
I have and it was great.
I am now advertising as a mobile nail tech and its not going too bad.
I would expect that you could use this as a base to your learning, as working in a salon you would normally do more than 1 treatment-mani, pedi maybe massage, spray tan etc.

I did the course in July 2006. At the end of the course you will be able to put on a set of nails safely but it is, as it says, a foundation course and should be seen as the beginning of your training in the world of nails.

You will enjoy it I know. I did, and went on to learn Brisa gels and did the Spa mani/pedi course.

Good luck:lol:

Some students excel at nails immediately, most take some time to become skillful and confident and a small few find it's not for them.

Some salon owners, myself included, will occasionally take employees on almost immediately after Foundation and give them further training and support, however many are too busy themselves and/or don't have the knowledge to develop nail techs.

Many of us start out just trying to gain some experience with friends, family and a bit of mobile work. It works.... just have a read at how successful so many techs on this site are, after starting out in this way.

Hi Jodie,

You sound really fed up, bless you. Have you not considered going mobile at all or is it a no go for you?

Why dont you rent yourself some space in a salon????

thanks for the feedback, i guess i wil just have to wait and see how good i am after i have done the course! because i hav heard salons arent really interested in newly qualified nail techs. im thinking about mobile yeah but its whether i can build a big enough client base. im having extra sessions with a lady that owns a salon after i have done my course to get me to a high standard x

That seems like a really sensible idea, and you could also consider booking one-to-one training with your Educator, most companies offer this service and it allows you to concentrate on areas that you and your trainer feel you need to improve on:)

The very best of luck!

I went straight from qualifying to renting a table in a hairdressers,
my nail skills were appalling at that time but i did sets at £15 to get the practise in and it worked a treat,
i was honest with the clients, i told them i had only just qualified and the price was to reflect a training fee,
6 months later my skills had much improved from all the practise i managed to get while there and i went and bought my own salon,
so don't be too disheartened hun, you just have to take the bull by the horns and go for it,
no one will help you but no one can stop you either hun its all up to you,
good luck

I agree with loubylou... I had not worked for 18mths ( baby) and went straight in the deep end... booked my clients 2 hours apart and told them that speed was not my forte and they didn't seem to mind at all... some of my very first clients are still with me now 19mths later. It will take time to get your head around it but just take your time and do what you have been taught and you will be fine... you are training with the best... something i am yet to do..

hello, im currently on l&p foundation course and have compleated day 3 yesterday where we was able to apply a set of nails on to our LIVE model lol..... as on our first day we learnt the mini manicure which is to pre pair the nail bed for the acrylic we were able to do this on someone actually on the course to get practice of what to do. we also did alot of theory before doing this so we had an idea what and why we are doing and how to do it properly... then got our tips meausered up and on to our handy andy lol.
On day 2 we got shown how to apply the acrylic, how to get the right amount on the brush, which strokes to use and when. As well as which files to use and when to finish the nail once the product is on
then day 3 we got our live model in and done from start to finish on them... i thought my set looked sooo crap but apparently they are ment to look like that lol being my first...

so on day 4 you have an hour theory test which you need to have revised from your work book after day one. then you need to do infills on your model.
and day 5 you need to do one hand infill and one full reset.

Inbetween all this you should be practising on either your own hand, friends hands, or ya handy andy lol (training hand)
as well as revising for your theory.

I think the course soo far has been brillient!!! and its not boring or uneventful... its full of fun, laughter and practicles...

Oh dont forget your credit card because you will want to buy everything lol i spent £158 lol :) and intend to spend more next time i go :p
hope this sheds light!
