Hi geeks,

I was wondering when your ill e.g flu etc do you not work do you not book clients in? Incase you spread your illness to the client.

Also before you deal with a client or book them in do you ask if they are currently unwell or been unwell in the last week or so just to prevent you from becoming unwell and slowing down your business?

thanks

I would phone them and explain and give them the choice. Some clients just wont go near you with a cold and others don't care.
I wouldn't ask them if they had a cold on the phone it may sound a little off putting but I rarely get ill so i'm not too fussed xxx

Its a catch 21 situation really isnt it. If a client is due and I have a cold if he/she were vunerable ie undergoing medical treatment (chemo etc low imune system) or due in hospital for treatment or surgery then I would call explain and cancel (as I am sure the client would prefer this). Other than that I have had clients call me before to say they were full of cold and would I rather they re book when they are over it which I would. Then again if it is just a cold that is going around then chances are your going to pick it up along the way anyhow so I just soldier on. However if it is a tummy bug or the likes of then they/we would have (should) to cancel. It would be down to you really you know your clients best some mind some don`t.

Thanks for your replies girlies :)

I do plan to tell my clients if i am not well and leave it to them if they really want to come for the treatment, as i feel it would look unprofessional for me to stand there blowing my nose or coughing all the time.

But i really would rather ask my client over the phone if they have been unwell in the last 2 weeks just to protect myself and my business as if im ill then i cant work etc and im kinda OCD on the hygiene side

I just dont want to sound rude to my clients if i ask them, but perhaps i could explain it is for hygiene reasons etc

xx

But surely your not going to be able to ask every client you have booked in (as they would be booked in from a previous apt? and you may well not see them from one apt to the next) or do you plan to contact them 24/48 hrs prior to the appointment to see if they have been ill? You could end up at a bit of a loss here. As long as you as a therapist maintain a strict hygiene routine in your workplace (which I am sure you do) then this should be enough. At the end of the day your not going to know who has been ill in the past 2 weeks - whether your at work play shopping doctors. Just be careful you don't offend. Put a tea tree oil burner on as it helps keep germs down.

if i did have a cold i woudl use lots of anti-bacterial hand gel and let the client see me keep using it!
if the clients unwell id offer them some and put it somewhere they can reach and tell them to help themselves

I think you are been a bit over the top on this one,
if im ill then i wear a mask and constantly use hand sanitiser,

9 out of 10 clients that feel well enough to come to their appointment will not think to ask if its ok with you for them to come to their appointment,

since working in the salon and meeting and touching hands with god knows how many people i must have built up a really good immune system because i have only ever once caught a cold and i can not blame that on a client as coughs & colds are passed by air borne viruses so i could have caught it any where,

how do you think doctors go on seeing 1000s of ill people every week, they dont take loads of time off work.

I agree with fellow posters, I would not personally be asking people if they have had a cold or been unwell in the last 2 weeks. If I booked an appointment at a salon and somebody asked me that I would feel very uncomfortable and proberly end up cancelling and going somewhere else! If I had a cold, then I would call the client and explain and leave the decision up to them if they wanted to come in or re book :)
