Hi guys I have curly mixed hair and I had a balayage 5 months ago (dark roots with blonde)
But I've just noticed the front is getting shorter like its breaking off [emoji24] I have a hair appointment in a few days for a touch up but now I'm hesitant in doing it again...
I dont use any heat whatsoever (blow dry/straighteners) I always condition it and have it natural.
Advice please! I have annoying copper tones that I want to get rid of - Should I not touch up my hair? Would it make it worse? All advice is greatly appreciated [emoji846] xx

If you have any doubts, call your stylist and express your concerns. They should offer a consultation prior to the appointment to make sure that there are no issues. I would definitely seek a salon that provide Olaplex services. Was the length of your hair the same around the perimeter? Or was it shorter towards the front anyway?

Are you using a high protein shampoo/conditioner? That can lead to breakage.

Thanks guys it was more or less the same length but now theres shorter bits that I havent seen before [emoji24]

Really! I'm using purple shampoo and conditioner, and loreal smartbond to help repair

Purple shampoo can be very drying and should only be used occasionally, so not every time you shampoo.

With Afro textured hair, it's best after a colour session, to do a deep protien treatment followed by a deep moisture treatment. (ApHogee 2 step protein treatment then use Osmo deep moisture intense repair mask).

For after care, I recommend she sees a specialist in natural hair. They will best advise her on what products and techniques she uses for hair length retention in Afro textured hair.

Colouring afro textured hair can be very damaging. In my opinion it should only be used if the client can manage the up keep of the moisture and protien balance. Or else it just damages the hair immensely.

I would only use the purple shampoo sparingly and only when necessary. As the salts in the shampoo can damage Afro textured hair, leading it to dryness and inevitable hair breakage.

Hope this helps Xx

What after care products do you use and how?

I can help as I have Afro textured hair alongside being a natural hair specialist in all hair types. Xx

Is hair mayonnaise a good treatment for this I'm sure I have some of that?x

I think you may need a harder protein treatment than mayonnaise. If you cannot get hold of the products I recommend, then use a clarifying shampoo, rinse really well. Mix mayonnaise, honey and olive oil with your ordinary conditioner (as a temporary fix until you can get the right products for you hair).Leave in on your hair for as long as you can, under a shower cap and towel. Rinse the hair well and follow it by a leave in conditioner and seal with oil.
Please do make sure that you use a deep conditioner every time you wash your hair. A protein treatment can be used once a month. However please always follow it through with a moisturising conditioner and oil.

Without accessing your hair, it's really hard for me to pin point and give you a detailed individual hair care regime.

There are not many natural hair care specialists out here, and it can be so frustrating! I wouldn't suggest any more hair colour until you get the moisture & protein balance right. If you need any more advise, don't hesitate to ask. Xx

Oh what does a clarifying shampoo do? Does that strip the colour? (Sorry so many questions lol) x

A clarifying shampoo removes product build up. Product build up can make our hair very dull and dry. Therefore making it harder for us to balance the moisture levels.

Clarifying shampoos are very drying on Afro textured hair, if it's not followed up with a deep moisture conditioning treatment.
Its recommended that we use one approx every 4-6 weeks.

God who knew hair was so complex [emoji24] thankyou for your advice xx

P.s every week I've been shampooing with purple shampoo ever since having it coloured so that would be the reason its breaking [emoji85] (will definitely change that now!)
And I use smartbond + purple conditioner after. Yeesh! Wish the salon gave me proper advice!

Now I use 100% coconut oil daily & will use a deep moisturising shampoo followed by a deep moisture conditioner, then when my hair improves will sort out these annoying copper tones[emoji120] xx
