This is my latest attempt at a custom blended nailbed cover powder. Please excuse the window reflected in the surface of the nail, it rather spoilt the line of light

Do you think this colour is right (the other nails only have a thin layer of clear l&p).

Also, I'm not used to doing long free edges, so how did I do with the balance?

Cheers,
Hazel

Come on, someone must have an opinion

Please?

I like the colour but would prefer to see it from a better angle.

The balance and apex looks fine :D

I agree hun, have you got any other angles ?
The light makes it a little hard to see the true colour,
Overall from this angle it looks good..
To see a further away shot not too far away lol, just to see some more of the skin tone would be cool to help with the colour,
The overall form of the nail is Luuurvely

It does look fabby, But there is something I can't put my finger on lol,
I'm not sure it its the length of the free edge, or the smile "ears" are a little high up.

Personally, I don't like such a long free edge, but I made a right dogs ear of ladybgemini's nails when I was practicing because I'd never done long ones before. Sorry Rachel, I sort of went to pieces a bit  So I thought I'd better have another go.

If anyone else can figure out what it is that doesn't quite look right then please let me know.

Cheers,
Hazel

Just ask her about my obsessive brush disorder...she will know what you are talking about

Found a link ....http://www.salongeek.com/chit-chat/55965-going-see-emmsybabes-bit-woooooooo.html

By the way hun, I am not saying your nail is bad, omg no way am I saying that it is LOVELY,
Theres nothing wrong with it just something that could make it look even better if you know what I mean, I think it may just be length tbh xxx

im not an expert on cb which is why i havent rated it but i think it looks lovely its got a excellent finish to it.
although i know what emma is saying about something not looking right as i also thought this.i think it looks like its one of those stuck on nails that you can buy from boots but i really dont know why i thought this.
i hope i havent offended anyone because i do think this a lovely looking nail and i personally like my nails this long so i think you've done a fab job.xx

Well I've just finished a full set with a slightly tweaked blend and now I think I've messed it up :irked:

It's too dark to see properly or take a photo so I'll post a new piccie tomorrow so you can give an opinion.

Cheers,
Hazel

http://www.henshall.plus.com/nails/blend4.jpg this pic has a line that looks like product on the skin....? might not be but just looks like it.

I personally love the colour...its a lovely nail, i think for a free edge that long a deeper smile might have worked better....??

Well, good to see you've been practising the longer free edge lol.

This one looks lovely, but as someone else pointed out, the smile needs to be smilier on longer nails IMO.

Did you do these reverse? or 1 2 and 3?

Was good to see you the other week, let me know when you;re ready for another go.

Emms, your brush disorder was so funny, I hope you're not still doing it :smack:. I must admit I've been a bit slap happy with my brush recently lol.

Rachel

See what you mean about the line - don't know what that is on the photo but it defo isn't product on the skin. I tend to have the opposite problem and have too much of a gap or file too much off so that the nail shows through the custom blend.

I do need to practice a more extreme smile line. I keep shying away from them as they don't look too good on me. I take a piccie of my nails then immediately file them down shorter as I just can't live with them like this

I hope I didn't traumatize you as much as I did me

I did the reverse method on this one as I was using the custom blend. I'm practicing getting them thinner but I seem to have a problem with getting them too thin at the ears of zone one so that when I straighten the sidewalls I start seeing a shadow of the natural nail through. Once I'm a bit more confident at this I'll give you a ring. Plus points are I've cut down my prep a bit and don't seem to have any lifting issues.

Hope the family are well,
Cheers,

One thing to do when doing the reverse method, is when you pat out the bead that forms the smile, make it the same thickness all the way across the nail, side wall to side wall, then when the white is applied, there is plenty at the sidewalls and when you refine, you shouldnt see a shadow.

If you press the product too thin at the sidewalls when creating the smile, there is nothing for the white to butt up to and ends up very thin and when you refine, you remove it.

hope this makes sense

Rachel xx

Makes perfect sense thanks. I'm finding it so hard to judge it so that the sidewalls don't end up being too bulky - I seem to be filing for England now
