Hi

I am not a hairdresser but I offer facials and other beauty treatments. I am considering adding to my list, cut throat shaving.

Have you done a course if so can you please let me know if it is something that can be offered from a treatment room alongside beauty.

I notice that there is a course for approx £175 and this is a day course.

Any advice appreciated.

This is a fantastic treatment to offer guys, I've recently done my training in it and thoroughly enjoyed it!

There are many places that offer training in it, and of course varying degree's of quality! I did my training with The Shave Doctor (Mark Sproston) - www.theshavedoctor.co.uk - and I cannot recommended him enough! Incredibly experienced shaver, and an amazing trainer.

On the course you don't shave balloons, you don't practice holding the blade ... you just shave! I did a one day workshop with Mark and he didn't do a single demo ... just shows you how to do a few strokes and then its over to you while he watches, guides and advises.

Not sure about training courses, but it is an extremely difficult skill to learn how to do properly! I can use a cut throat razor on the neck, but find it incredibly difficult to shave a face, despite being taught by a great barber.

so you were just let loose on somebody with a cut throat razor!!!! he must have the bravest or ugliest scarred models in the country i would definitely not be a willing guinea pig:):):)

I am really interested in training with the shave doctor but i know you've got to have 10 models over two days and i'm a bit worried i won't be able to get them.

Firstly because its on a work day and secondly because i'd only want family and friends. I wouldn't fancy training on a client. I'd be dead nervous and what if i cut them?!!

Do you do it in your treatment room Matt?

I think we can safely guarantee that you will draw blood at some point. Its one of those things that looks easy when you watch a skilled barber, but is shockingly difficult to do.

Great thread! :)

I too am very interested in learning this.

Do you think it will be a popular treatment to offer in a beauty salon or do you think most men would prefere to go to their barbers to have it done?

What is the average price charged for a cut throat shave? How long does it take to do?

Do you think a 1 day course is long enough to learn what you need to know?

Sorry for all the questions! :irked:

Love Emma x:hug:x

Personally I dont think a one day course will even cover the basics! can you learn facials in a day? can you learn nails or waxing in a day? It's on a par with learning to cut hair in terms of skill and practice. I promise you it looks easy but its not, and I trained as a barber!!
