Hi

I gave my client a sample of cuticle oil today and asked her to try and use it daily ( she has had gel enhance ments)

She had been told by her usual tech not to use cuticle oil as this was 'to greasy' for gels and would 'cause them to lift'

Now as far as I know (please feel free to shoot me down) I thought that the cuticle oil would keep the cuticles moisturised, the nail flexible and help prolong the life of the enhancement. The only stipulation is not to get the cuticle oil all over the enhancement because it can cause the top coat to become dull.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks:eek:

cuticle oil will not cause the gel enhancement to lift if used afterthe enhancement has been cured.

The balance between oil and water is very important to maintain, since the health of the nail plate depends on these two valuable resources.

Oils also act like internal shock absorbers, lessening the harmful effects of impact and sudden shocks.

I have not found cuticle oil to make the gel top coat dull. Maybe it is just the oil smearing, wipe with a towel.

Hi, I have never heard of cuticle oil causing lifting, or separation although I believe that CND solar oil is the best on the market, soaking through the acrylic/gel, not causing any lifting just nourishes the natural nail bed.

What type of cuticle oil did you give your client to use?

hi
I agree Solar oil is one off the best my clients love it...:)

Hi

What an odd thing to tell her. I've never heard of this.

I seem to be on the same page as the others, cuticle oil is highly recommended for keeping the enhancements in good condition, flexible and cuticles moisturised.

I was of the understanding that only acrylic nails need to be oiled as acrylic is porous and therefore the oil will penetrate it. As far as I know gel is non-porous and therefore the oil will have no effect other than to moisturise the cuticle/ephonicium area. Hence the reason we sometimes use a gel top coat on acrylic as it will not absorb water etc and therefore prolong the life of the acrylic.

I hope this helps, I qualified in Bio Sculpture in November 08, so very new and still trying very hard to learn but Bio Sculpture is a soft porous gel and we are told to recommend to clients that they use a cuticle oil with their gel. I have never seen the Bio Cuticle oil make the gel lift - but please don't take it as gospel its just my working experience so far and what we are told in training. To be honest I have also used Solar oil as well and it has not made my gel lift. Hth x

As our smart geeks have said ...

Use of Solar Oil will not make gel nails lift nor will it cause the finishing gloss to go dull ... and although for sure some gels are less porous than others, something like Solar Oil (which is a very light oil and a blend of high grade botanical oils) WILL help gels just as it does L&P to stay moisturized and in good condition.

The lady's usual tech gave her incorrect information.

This is interesting, so perhaps only hard gels are non-porous and soft gels (soak off) do need to be oiled, in fact I have just answered my question!

Obviously "soak off" gel is porous as it needs to be for the acetone to have any effect! Mind you if you finish a "soak off" gel application with an acetone resistant uv top coat then I don't imagine the oil would have any effect?

Hard gels are NOT NON porous .. they are LESS porous than L&P. Using Solar Oil over a hard gel is still beneficial to both the gel and the client.

Sorry if I confused you Sharon I don't know, I only know Bio which I am trained in is not resistant to Acetone and we don't have an Acetone resistant uv top coat for this product so it is a porous gel and you need to take care for that reason. We just use top coat to protect the gel although there are different strengths of gels used. xxx

I always recommend my clients to use Solar Oil wether they are wearing L&P or Gel to enhance the longetivity of their nails xx

Cuticle oil should be used on nails all the time: whether they are natural or enhanced and it's perfectly fine for ALL enhancements.

I use a 'hard gel', EZ Flow Gel It... and my clients that are religious with it, you can see a definite difference in the condition of their nails.
I can always tell when someone has been slacking off

Hi Guys many thanks for your responses. I use Ezflow and gave my client a sample of the ezflow oil. My clients usual tech uses a very well known brand and I must admit I was very confused as to why she would tell her this.

I will carry on as normal with my aftercare advice !!!!

Many thanks again
