Personally I would ring the salons and ask to speak to either the owner or the manager.Put on your best telephone voice and ask if any jobs are available.

I have got several jobs doing this.Have a little speach prepared and dont sound too desperate or offer anything free.

If they have something they may ask you for your CV.I wouldn't go round the salons in your whites.I would dress in smart clothes and make sure you look immaculate at your interview. You will need your uniform for the trade test only and the job if you are taken on.

The trouble with posting your Cv without speaking to the owner/manager first is quite often salons are bombarded with them(we were)and they are read and put away(usually forgotten about as well, sadly)

If you make a good impression on the phone, and then asked for your CV you can hand deliver it with a cover letter referring to your phone chat)
Owners/managers are generally too busy to have a chat with you if you just turn up asking for a job.HTH and good luck:hug:

hey thanks for advice maybe i was coming across to desperate and i understand how busy thay must be soooo best i start on phone calls today, hey ho another day x

Why dont you offer some free work experience.

xx

iv been asking huge amounts of salons for work experience maybe its just the wrong month but i wont give up there must be someone who can give me a chance x

Please make sure your CV is good. I have lots of CV's that come in and the grammar, spelling etc is terrible. I'm not saying I am an expert at English but I would probably get someone that is, to check it for me.

Another thing that bugs me is some people don't seem to think twice about including an email address like [email protected]. That just puts me right off straight away.

That maybe not something that you do already, but you will be amazed at the CVs that I get. Probabaly about 1 in 50 are ok. Even if I'm not looking for staff, I'll hang on to the good ones and bin the rest.

If you want me to have a look over it for you, let me know. I could maybe spot something that you didn't.

Oh, and don't use the comic sans font either!

This is great advice.

When I had my Salon I got so many CVs in through the door nearly on a weekly basis and most of them were just glanced at and then put to one side.

One of the things that annoyed me the most was the bad grammar. I just felt that it looked like the person applying for the job just couldn't be bothered and that wasn't the type of person I wanted working for me.

I was more inclined to take someone on if I met them face to face, so I do think going into the Salon is a good idea (no need for the whites though)

Ask for the Salon owner and if she's not there, remember the therapist on reception will give the Salon owner a full run down of what you were like and what her first impression of you was.

I would also put a picture of yourself on your CV... I know it sounds a bit odd, but again, when you can put a face to a CV it will make your CV stand out amongst the others.

Best of luck

I'm very sorry to hear about your Mum

We didn't mean your spelling or grammar are bad on the site (I can't talk.... eeek and my spell check doesn't work anymore so excuse any bad spelling)

We were just giving advise about the grammar, as personally I've had so many CVs and a LOT of them were bad..... but we weren't saying it because of the grammar in any of your posts
