Darkening a base color without affecting highlights

Hello! I’m wanting to darken up the base a bit probably to a more natural level 4 but as of rn it looks like a natural 7 how can I achieve this?

Hello! I’m wanting to darken up the base a bit probably to a more natural level 4 but as of rn it looks like a natural 7 how can I achieve this?

Root colour and low lights in-between the highlights?
Or put the highlighted sections in foil with toner or conditioner and then put a full base colour on in-between.
