Hi, im pretty new to this nail technician stuff and am going through training at the moment.....Ive been practising on lots of people but am getting a bit fed up of having to get new glue each time. I dont know if its me or the actual glue but it just doesnt seem to be lasting.....one poor girl I used for practising called me and said half the nails fell off after only 3hrs!....does glue have a 'use by' date??
I've recently been using The Edge Nail Glue and so far so good.
Does anyone have any tips on what I could be doing wrong, any decent glue I could use?
Also the gel seems to be lifting around the bottom.....Ive tried everything to stop this but it still happens.....is it my technique, am I not preparing the nail properly or can I blame the products??
Any help would be great
thanks

Hi Kaz, welcome to geek.
Could you please fill in your profile a bit more with more information. ie where you trained how long what products etc.
It will help us oldtimers give you more detailed answers if we know a few more crucial details from yourself.
Once you have done that you should find people readily willing to help and answer your queries.

thanks Jen - was taking me ages to figure out how to do that....then realised I wasnt logged in...d'oh!!

Nails coming off can be lots of things it could be down to the adhesive but more often down to application how is your blending do you find this difficult if you do it is probably due to your tip application and air bubbles being present under the tip.Do you know about apexes so how to build up your strength in stress areas which is very important to stop nails coming off.Dont worry there is lots to learn, youve only just started. I would say the hardest out of everything i have done is nail enhancement.
Do some searches on here for tip application blending etc and look in the tutorials.

Kaz when you say you are training at the Carlton (which I also did many moons ago and I must admit was the biggest waste of my money, I wish I had known about geek then I can tell you.) Are you not using EZFlow products?
Is there a educator there that you could ring and talk to about your teething problems?
It sounds like there could be an issue with your prep or application of gel if you are getting lifting, maybe you are going to close to the eponicium and getting it on the skin, this wuld cause lifting also if you havent removed every last trace of non living tissue that could also pose a problem.
I would deffo speak to your educator and also search on here for application tips.
I know that with regards to tips the training that the Carlton gave were non existant really I learnt so much more after doing my conversion with CND.
The tip has to fit snuggly up against the free edge of the natural nail so that there are no gaps, If you get air bubbles in the glue under the tip that can also lead to service breakdown.
Run us through you application start to finish and we will be able to see if you are going wrong anywhere.

I realllllllly love this brand
Bondini Big Bondini Brush-On Nail Glue .5oz

I like the brush-on kind the best. It's also great for repairs and applying rhinestones. The best part is that this stuff lasts forever, so there's no need to worry about it drying out or becoming gloopy :)

Hi, thanks for all your replies.
No I didnt train with the Ezflow system...I did my training a while ago and have been really slack with getting myself in gear to actually finish the training....I did go back and was told that I would have to re-do & re-pay to learn how to do the Ezflow...which I refuse to do considering how much Ive already paid out to them....and have to say I was not impressed with the training at all....they said we would have plenty of time to practice on each other.....I got to practice on 1 finger for each system we learnt (3 days to learn manicure, pedicure, acrylics, gels, fibreglass and silk was pushing a bit i think!).
This is how they taught us: Im preping the nail as normal (pushing cuticles back, sanitising, filing etc), buffing with white block, using nail prep/dehydrator, preparing the tip (correct size, blending before putting on nail), applying tip to nail using adhesive (not having a problem with air pockets), wiping away any adhesive that may be on nail or fingers, blending tip to natural nail (dont seem to have a problem with this....I was at first overblending but have sorted this out now), then starting with putting the gel on (I think sometimes I do go a bit too close to the eponicium but not all the time), I do a couple of layers of gel - curing each layer for 2 mins and wiping sticky residue off before the next layer. And thats it really....Im actually quite scared that you're all going to tell me Ive been doing it completely wrong

To answer your question professional nail adhesive (we do not use glue in the nail industry) does go off. It goes off faster than any other product (ALL of them no matter what anyone tells you). If you have had yours for more than one year then do not use it.

Hun tbh I would look at doing a conversion with CND now that is money well spent, the training that the Carlton did in 2006 when I did mine was complete rubbish IMHO, I have since converted with CND and haven't looked back.
Brisa gel is one of the best out there and I love it, if you look in my albulms there are pics of a 12 week rebalnce with no lifting!!!!
If you are using the nailite gel that I trained with them to use then its awful stuff, is it the soft gel? soak off stuff.
You shouldnt wipe the inhibition layer off until you have done your final layer.
Safe yourself a lot of expense and go and do a conversion with Sweet squared www.sweetsquared.co.uk all the numbers and info that you need are on there. Or even start from scractch and do a foundation course with them, you get a kit included in the training price and their products are some of the best bar none, with over 30 years in the industry they know their stuff. And our own nail goddess Geeg also is part of this amazing family as well as the geek himself.
