I'm having a really hard time choosing between training in CND Shellac and Gelish....

My gut is telling me to go with Shellac but I've noticed the Gelish seems more popular with a younger clientèle...

Is application very different? And if I was to eventually train in both can a CND Shellac lamp cure Gelish?

What do you use and how did you chose which to use?

I've just completed my ITEC in Pedi and have my Mani exam next week and want to get on training course soon.

I use shellac i decided to go with it because you just use it like polish you dont buff the nails like you do with some others

I've been having a dilemma over the same thing! I did an eyebrow course on Monday and all the other beauticians on the course said gelish is the way to go. My next door neighbour is a nail technician specialising in shellac and is thinking about doing a gelish course so I am wondering if they are basically the same thing but gelish is the new big brand and shellac is old hat?

I know a few people who offer both ive seen quite a few different brands which look good

A shellac lamp will cure Gelish but a Gelish lamp won't cure shellac. The difference is you buff the natural nail before application with Gelish and you also have to dry brush the base gel. Shellac is a little easier to remove. I started out with shellac and I am adding a fee Gelish bright colours for the younger clientele :)

I offer both, and love both! I have also just started to intro IBD Just Gel which has the most amazing colours!!

It was hard to choose between the 2, so ran both alongside each other since the start xx

Use both. Prefer Gelish as I find it easier to apply and doesn't go gloopy as bottle gets older. Don't buff nail for either.

Is it easier to remove than shellac ? Would I need to buy all the gelish prep products or can I use shellac scrub fresh & disperse etc ? I thought I'd only ever use 1 product but some people just don't get on with shellac. Thanks x

I use both - love Gelish for the colours but adore Shellac for the lush removal. Gelish takes about 15/20 mins to remove whereas Shellac is off in 8 mins and it just flakes off!! :)
I love them both for different reasons - I just wish the Gelish removal was easier and quicker.
I use Scrub fresh for both but use Gelish Cleanse to remove sticky layer although not sure why as IPA works just as well as on Shellac. As long as you use the correct Base and Top coat for each system there isn't a problem :)

I use gelish converted from shellac and haven't looked back. Takes me 10 mins to remove gelish. I find acetone removes it faster than the gelish remover though. x

Only wish they did matching polishes to their Gelish colours, I know they are starting to match a few but surely you would have thought they would have done it on their most popular Gelish colours first.....ie a polish that matches Gossip Girl

Morgan Taylor are the complimentary polish range though, not all that jazz. In the US they do duo boxsets of Gelish/MT.

The matching MT polish to gossip girl is sitting pretty.

Just my opinion but atj branding is pretty unappealing & the amount of offers harmony run on this range leads me to believe they struggle to shift it. Very high price points also.

Thank you very much, I didn't know there was a matching polish for Gossip Girl.yipee

I agree about ATJazz, the packaging looks like it is aimed at youngsters, which are not my clientele.

Salon Services had the duo Gelish and MT polish packs when I was in the other day.

I use shellac but was considering getting some gelish in too for the fab colours. I've just trialled gelish on my nails for 2 weeks, I'm trying to soak it off now and I can't get it off. I'm using d-solve...so is there a specific gelish remover, is that why I'm struggling to remove it?x

You live & learn :)

I've never been in a salon services so wrongly assumed they were US only :o

I quite like MT polishes. Good pigmentation, quick dry time & creamy texture. Don't like the name though. Before I knew the story behind it I assumed Morgan Taylor was one person. An older lady with bouffant hair & shoulder pads

Quite cute that it's their daughters though!

I much prefer MT to vinylux simply for the choice of colours!!!

Did you remove the shine first?
D solve should be fine.
