What woud you do in my position?

Someone wants a 12.5 spray tan and has fair skin. I have said that I dont recommend this blah, blah, blah, but she's adamant that she's had it before and wants it. In my proffesional opinion I dont feel comfortable doing that, what should I say and do?

Well I have fair skin and if I use a product over 8% I look like an oompa lumpa, all you can do is advise her why we have different percentages !! then make a note of it on her client card that you dont recommend it for specific reasons, then get her to sign it, and if shes insists, then let her have it !! you cant do much else, and she would probably go somewhere else to have it done otherwise, you've given your proffessional advise to her.

Let us know how it turns out ?

Ok, I'll do that :)

I had a similar thing very recently (if you didn't live in Devon I would think it was the same girl) except this one wanted 3 layers of 12% on skin I wouldn't have put more than 8% on. I did 2 layers of 10% in the end as a compromise and she rang me the next day saying it was too light and she was adamant that she wanted 3 layers of 12% and she was really very very unpleasent about it. I don't like being spoken to like that by an 18 year old - or anyone for that matter! She also lives a good hours drive through london traffic from me so I said ok but i will have to charge you £35 instead of £25 as you want 2 extra layers of solution (ie enough for me to spray another 2 whole bodies) and she lived miles away. If she had lived next door and was pleasant I would have only charged her an extra couple of quid and proved myself right but as it was I decided to cut my losses by pricing myslef out of the market. I am lucky in that I have another job that I love (sometimes) too and I only do this around the edges as I enjoy it.

I would do it so long as you note on her card that you have reccommended not to and she signs it. I have a feeling that the orange look might be coming back in so I am expecting to get more requests for similar things but hopefully in a pleasent way!

Good luck with your decision.

Lx

My nail girl is very pale and i've sprayed her with 10% and it wasn't dark enough. Some people just have that type of skin!
You have advised her and there's nothing else you can do. Get her to sign something if it makes you feel better and just do it.
If she has had 12% before then i don't see a problem.
The customer is alright right-lol

I have a lady that is VERY pale, would spray her with an 8% given the choice but she insists on being sprayed with 12.5% Sienna!

I tried to talk her out of it in the beginning but she insisted so I told her it was her call but dont come back complaining if you dont like the colour.

She has it all the time now and loves it, I still think she would suit a lighter shade better but as you say the customer is always right lol

Wow guys thank you:hug:

Well I explained to her and she was fine about it, she loves it so that's the main thing I guess. I got her to sign it.

I was just having a good read on your comments, and I can believe how rude people can be, but you're always gonna get that. I'm going to change my consultation card to my own version soon and have it explained in a way that people can't complain about, if you know what I mean!

As for that lady who who lives an hour away from London, stupid cow! You are the professional ; it really annoys me because some people will not listen, you're the one who's bloody trained in it!!

Cheers guys:)

yep I had this with a client/friend of mine, whos really, really bad for keeping enhancements on ( all 3 systems, not matter what you do ? she DONT look after them at all) Trying to tell another potential client that they would not suit her because shes on medication
god that annoyed me:mad: Who's the one whose been trained ?? lol not her

We may be the ones that have been trained but customers know what they want. We can give them our opinion but if they choose to ignore it then at least you tried.
If someone came in wanting their nails done a certain way, and you as the nail tech thinks a different shape or whatever would suit her, would you try and talk her out of it because in your professional opinion it would look better?
Someone comes in for a haircut and you know the style would not suit them-would you refuse to do it?
We can advise but we can't make their decision for them. If she wants to go darker and has gone darker before then i can't see a problem.
I've sprayed people with 18% (only guinea pigs), and was quite surprised how nice the colour was. One friend i sprayed was quite light too but insisted on having it and absolutely loved it.
I wouldn't want it on myself-it's way too dark-i like a more natural colour, but that's my choice to make :)

Yes of course the customer is always right and if thats what they want to look like then spot on, but the problem is other people see them looking orange or with dodgy-shaped nails/bad haircut and think 'gosh - I'm not going to whoever did that monstrosity!' Thats my problem with it. They are a bad advertisment for me.

I wouldn't want to get my hair cut by somebody who has got absolutely disasterous hair, and I wouldn't want to be spray tanned by someone who was orange and streaky, although in both cases chances are they wouldn't have done their own hair/spray tan. Its all about perceptions.

Does that make sense?

Totally agree with you darl!!

I see what you are saying but if my hairdresser gives someone a cut that doesn't suit them, it would still be a bloody good cut-it just wouldn't suit her!
I spray people with Fake Bake. I personally don't like Fake Bake particularly-always think it makes you look dirty, but my clients request it and that is the look they want.
Who am i to argue!?

I 100% agree! The last thing I want is someone walking around with a dodgy orange tan and saying that I did it! I see plenty of those sort of tans strolling around the local shopping centre and have to fight the desire to run up to them and give them my business card and a mirror:lol::lol::lol:
