I have their rep coming to see me next week and I am seriously considering taking on the range. What I would like to know is how well you really do with their retail.

I know there are lots of comments about the products being sold VAT free from Jersey, and of course eBay and the internet. But I'm not interested in gossip or opinions (sorry!:)) but the experience of those who actually stock the brand.

:green:

I think it is a brilliant idea for you to retail Dermalogica products. I work in a Dermalogica salon and I think the retail prices are certainly realistic so it wont put the majority of clients off. We do get a fair amount of products sold after each facial treatment.
If people wanted to buy stuff on the internet cheaper, well, they still would have to pay for postage and packaging anyway. So if they are sensible they would buy it from you!
Go for it!

Hi Debs,

I stock Dermalogica and am so glad I took the range on.

I wouldn't say it exactly flys off the shelves but it does do well within the salon. There are certain products that literally sell themselves and some that don't do so well (I particuarly have problems retailing the suncare range!!)

I took the opening package with the tester stand and it definetly encourages clients to make purchases.

There are some clients that purchase of the internet (and have the front to tell me!) which does annoy me as I offer a loyalty scheme with the purchase of products but those clients that purchase from the internet I do NOT give samples to. I find the clients that buy of the net are usually younger or are generally very internet savvy.

I do quite a lot of advertising with emphasis on Dermalogica and have clients coming to buy the products as a result of this.

If I was to go back in time I would have placed an order for the smaller package and then just paid extra for the tester stand as the amount of retail I got was unbelievable and I hardly ever get clients with oily/acne skin so all the products for that skin type are just sat there !!

Hi

I've had Dermalogica for a year an a half now! I LOVE it. As bombini said it really does sell itself. The tester stand is a definate must!

The VAT-free sites do take away some trade, untill that person has their postman knock on the door and they have to pay up!! If you offer a good service most of your clients will buy from you thorugh loyalty. I do little deals if clients buy a moisturiser, toner and cleanser together.

There service is second to none, and you get lovely vouchers to get stuff that you dont really want to buy but you need, brochures etc.

Who have you got coming to see you?

The new range is fab - AGE Smart and they have got a shave/male range coming in Sept and October, a teen range, a pigmentation range and a new AGE smart exfoliator so it is VERY exciting!

The ebay thing is definatly something that happens in all ranges and is so difficult to stop. Dermalogica as do many other brands try their best to stop. You can get a sign from Dermalogica.com explaining to clients why they should not buy off eBay.

I agree with Bombini some ranges dont sell as well depending on your client base, but you never know when you will get a client who wants it. After a couple of months you get a feel for what really sells, for example I have one Anti-bac Skin Wash in stock but 5 Skin smoothing creams!

I have always worked with dermalogica in all salons ive worked in and clients LOVE it. One of the salons i worked in used the product and then changed to a different product half way through and we lost loads of clients because they wanted nothing but dermalogica.
I will also add that you may even find you are bringing in more customers as people look for dermalogica. Also as it isnt sold in shops etc people will search for places to buy it. So i think you should go for it!!

Thanks or your replies guys. It' nice to hear positive things as alot of people moan about the retail thing.

The rep I have coming to see me is Michele Feaver. She sent me an information pack yesterday and I was reading through all the professional only products and the list of training and was getting so excited!!! It really does sound like a great package. I will just have to speak nicely to my new bank manager!

:)Hi. Dermalogica are great products and i have stocked them for over 4 years now. The proffesional range is fantastic and my clients love the facials. I am self employed and work from a home based treatment room so dont sell massive amounts of retail. Like others i have found that some clients are buying online with up to 25% off and with free p&p which is very hard to compete with. I sell most of my products when i have an offer on. Go for It

what sort of offers do you all do? which ones work best?

I think the secret of success with Dermalogica (and I don't sell them currently) is threefold:

1: Knowledge, go on all the Dermalogica training - two or three times if you need to. You need to know each product you retail / use inside out. This really is your power, you can recommend products, suggest products and answer all of a clients questions - a website can't.
2: Convenience, they are in the salon for a treatment, make sure you attend their retail skills training and ensure you work with your area manager for best display of products, promotion and retail skills. If products you ordered don't sell - send them back! Get in products that do that clients can just pop in to collect.
3: Loyalty, develop a loyatly scheme that involves treatments and products.

Good luck!

A really good promotion (which I did last year) is the following:

30-30-30

Clients book in for a 30 minute face treatment, it costs them £30 and they take home 30 days worth of products (a skin kit - retails at £20)

I found that it encouraged people to try a facial and so get them in that way and also after they used the products they upgraded to larger sizes.

I sent each client a 10% off voucher about 3 weeks after their treatment for any large sizes they purchased.

Worked really really well!
