Ok so I know it's happened in England already because I've seen posts before about it, so even though I knew it was coming you still can't help but be outraged when you see Dermalogica for the first time in Pharmacy's!!!

I wanted to see if maybe the girls that worked there were properly trained and then just maybe I wouldn't be SO annoyed. So I asked the girl what was best for me skin after telling her I'm quite sensitive and have eczema. Now my skin is so dry that even super rich repair soaks in in a few seconds!

She prescribed Dermal Clay cleanser 'as you get a deep clean which dry skin needs!', thermafoliant (whick would tear sensitive skin) and Active Moist she said 'because it's full of moisture'!

So clearly these girls have no idea what their talking about. And we all know if someone picks up the wrong thing for their skin and gets bad results they won't go near the brand at all then! So knowing this, why the hell did Dermalogoca do it!!

What did you geeks do when it happened to you? Do you still stock Dermalogoca or did you move onto something else? I'd like to know if they lost much business. I have another product range that Im trying to focus on now but not sure if I should fully get rid of Dermalogica as this is the beginning of the name going down the crapper and I don't want to be dragged with it!

Sorry for the rant but Im just soooo annoyed at them

Oh dear :( had dermalogica in the family business 20yrs now and we have taken on a new skin care range beauty lab. We have kept on dermalogica as we have a good client base and it's a good tool for a salon but my loyalties and respect have gone down for them unfortunately. Just constantly disappointed by the reduction in exclusivity and respect back to the salons that chose to use them when they were fairly unknown, giving them their rise to success. What the lady said to you is laughable and I wouldn't have hesitated saying to her of my experience and that she's incorrectly prescribing. Xx

Wow! That is ridiculous.

As the previous poster mentioned, i have lost all confidence with Dermalogica, between their website selling restrictions altering to suit themselves, retailing in non-salon stores and the amount of times they were increasing their prices.

I had enough and i decided to change brands.

I actually went with Eve Taylor and i can't fault them at all. My clients love the products, the prices are reasonable, the delivery charge is reasonable and i've had great customer service. I actually wish i had gone to them first instead of Dermalogica as my clients and I prefer it, but i was in love with Dermalogica after working with it in a previous job. Needless to say, that relationship has gone sour xx

The one thing i do love about dermalogica is the free stuff you get! Haha like the posters samples marketing stuff display stands etc! You cant fault them for that! But really all the bad point do out way the good!! And the customer service is an absolute joke!!!!!!

I too have been looking not thinking about changing just have a look at other brands!! I did have a good look at Eye taylor but im not 100% i love there new products! They just need to bring ouut more products if they had a more products in the range i would be straight over!!!

I dont like dermalogica as a company but i love dermlogica products! And so far i havent found any other products that match it!! I dont think dermlogica support the smaller companies!

Just asking a question or two here. ... But is there no benefit from increased client recognition of the brand? Won't clients come to the professional who uses professional quality formulations of the same brand? The formulas in the pharmacies are consumer formulations right? Is it that you resent the pharmacies taking your retail sales? Are they doing that or do they sell at the same price as you do?

I went for a dermalogica facial only last Thursday and the fact that I could buy some derma products in the pharmacia didn't put me off going for my facial .. Plus I bought a few things from my therapist and not the pharmacy. I would trust the therapists recommendations over the counter staff any day .. I,d never enquire from them about a product and how it works!

Just saying ... Crap customer service is a problem though and as a therapist I wouldn't put up with that for long.

I have worked with Dermalogica for years & love the products but when it came to opening myself I wanted to go with a smaller, organic company.
Natural geek here!
I cannot fault the amazing reps I've always seen but it did dishearten me when I heard there stocking there teenage range in Topshop Oxford St.

This may just be rumours though I'm not 100%

Well what annoys me is the big phamacy companies can sell the products at a lower rate. So clients could come to us, get a prescription and go down to road to a phamacy!

And WE as therpaists know that you should go to a skin professional but clients dont. Theres so much information out there that its easy for them to get confused.

AND if I didnt know anything about the brand and bought products off the phamacy and they didnt suit me it would turn me off the brand completely.

I guess I and a lot of others, feel really let down by them as they train you to tell clients that commercial products that you can buy over the counter arnt as good as salon professional products so now we feel a bit stupid as everything we've been preaching over the years just went out the window!

Clearly Dermalogica arnt doing as well as they used to or they wouldnt have to do this? xxx

Lol ... I do not think I myself would come to that conclusion! Nor would I be so silly as to say it over the Internet, particularly when all the figures are UP even during this recession. I don't think that your average OTC person is your average salon regular either.

For example ... Ladies can go into a pharmacy and buy almost every retail item that I sell for nails (apart from my CND products, but we all know people are selling them on eBay) yet the salon is still full of ladies who buy everything from us even if they can buy at the pharmacy.

I think it is time that as pros, we all realise that with t'nternet nothing is as exclusive as we would like it to be and that anyone can get anything ... We need to get over it and use what we love to use whether or not others can get the same things elsewhere. Most don't bother to even try! Most of our clients come to us because they like US and they like what we DO with the products we use.

I use Eve Taylor and you can't buy their products cheaper than you can in the salon. They scour Ebay every day and if anyone is found to be selling their products then they are removed.
Clients will buy from you because they can't get them cheaper elsewhere. They are a company with great integrity and you will never find them in high street stores, so if you are looking for another skincare brand then it's worth giving ET a look.

Just to add a bit more salt in the wound did you get there email this morning? There website now sells the products as of today.

My rep did tell me a list of things they were going to change over the comming year but non of the other things have happened yet! Funny how this was top of there list! Lol

I took dermalogica on when no-one had a clue who they were! I worked hard teaching their philosophies and followed all their protocols. dermalogica said they supported 'Their Tribe' and would never sell to department stores... well of course now they do. dermalogica have managed to flood the market and have lost many great salons along the way. There is always something great just around the corner.

The way I see it is dermalogica have changed track with that I am also changing track and have bought in a new line.

Nothing is sacred and I believe we can make choices just as our clients can.

BTW geeg, CND is freely available to the public in Australia....yes even Shellac

If I use a brand that is available over the counter, I don't mind so long as it wasn't solely promoted to me as a 'professional only' or 'exclusive' product. I use OPI nail polishes which are sold in many large department stores and that hasn't hindered my retail sails or the publics respect for the brand, in fact OPI nail polishes fly out the door without my help really.

However, I would feel very conned if a brand preached one thing then contradicted themselves at a later date. Often these brands prove they are just followers of a trend and not leaders.

When I trained in Dermalogica I was put off by the very scripted training.

The dermalogica training is free thought! But it really just training on there products! Lol i am one of the lucky ones who lives 10mins away from the dermalogica training center so its great for me!

Interesting ... I am in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth every year and I have never seen Shellac available over the counter, neither have any of my nail tech friends in Oz ever told me that CND was freely available to the public all over Australia ....

We all know, that if determined enough, anyone can get anything these days (but it isn't always the genuine thing).

It is not CND protocol to sell CND products direct to the public in any country in the world so if people are doing so, it is completely against the wishes of CND.

Just wondering if anybody here has tracked their retail figures? Many seem concerned about loss of exclusive retailing benefits, which I can understand... But have you looked at your numbers to know WHAT effect it is having (if any)?

By increasing brand recognition you should find that more business is driven your way for treatments.

Once in the door it's part of therapists job to sell retail - regardless of where else it is available, surely?

This is not true.

Edit: oops missed your reply geeg... Side note, you should consider dropping in on Brisbane!

Thank you for confirming what I know to be true! Makes you wonder why people make such idiotic statements!

Yes I LIE all the time!... just drop into our suppliers that stock the general public... there is a major one in the City (Sydney) and also suppliers in the suburbs that have never asked for trade qualifications, so it won't be hard to find.

Geeg we have had this conversation before, you suggested I contact Pacific... I did this... just in case your interested. The product is still on display and sells very well to the general public (according to the sales assistant) I don't mind as we have lots of work but I do feel for the nail specialists who are battling this problem.

Staceymackey next time you get out off QLD maybe you could also check it out.

It does make me wonder why people make such idiotic statements!

This is your quote ..

Your original statement is a far cry from NOW saying .. there is a wholesaler in Sydney and suburbs that sells to the general public.

I didn't say you LIED (how silly) I said your statement that says in Australia Shellac is freely available to the public is not true. I haven't changed my mind.

There are lots of wholesalers in the USA and the UK that also sell to the general public (not CND I am glad to say). Some make a hew and cry about it ... I don't see it affecting my clientele who wouldn't know what to do with it if they had it.
