hmm i knew it would happen soon. because dermalogica are greedy. if i had a salon i wouldnt stock it at all, i think its a rubbish range (personal opinion before i get haters), md formulations all the way :)

This is your quote ..

Your original statement is a far cry from NOW saying .. there is a wholesaler in Sydney and suburbs that sells to the general public.

I didn't say you LIED (how silly) I said your statement that says in Australia Shellac is freely available to the public is not true. I haven't changed my mind.

There are lots of wholesalers in the USA and the UK that also sell to the general public (not CND I am glad to say). Some make a hew and cry about it ... I don't see it affecting my clientele who wouldn't know what to do with it if they had it.

Geeg, not a far cry at all! I do believe it is freely available if it is in wholesalers that retail to the general public. I have clients who have purchased CND Shellac there and when I'm in the shop there are plenty of non-professionals there.
I'm not sure why you get so offended by this.

Just wondering if anybody here has tracked their retail figures? Many seem concerned about loss of exclusive retailing benefits, which I can understand... But have you looked at your numbers to know WHAT effect it is having (if any)?

By increasing brand recognition you should find that more business is driven your way for treatments.

Once in the door it's part of therapists job to sell retail - regardless of where else it is available, surely?

I have watched my dermalogica sales plummet! I have found some clients drop off as they have also purchased 'professional' products such as EA35 online! I have been in my salon for 16 years and love it, I have a great relationship with my clients so have spoken to them about where they get it and how they use it. At the end of the day they can't massage themselves and they often misuse the products. The reality is they don't get great results without a trained eye!
I now have other products that are internet protected and offer outstanding results, obviously I steer clients towards this line now.

Edit: rethink

Hi Geeks and Geekets…

We apologise for all the frustration but would like to confirm, with absolutely no exception, all Dermalogica accounts have Qualified Skin Therapists. They must be working with a treatment room available and offer skin treatments.

We are continually looking at ways to ensure all stockists have the highest level of education, and are tackling all educational issues as top priority.

If you have any concerns please do speak to your Business Development Consultant.

Thanks

There is no treatment room in the Dublin Airport pharmacy!? And if the girls in there are trained skincare therapists then I give up! :)

I have only recently taken on Dermalogica and although people do love the facials it is hard to retail mainly due to internet sites selling it for not much more than I buy it in for..its interesting that dermalogica have posted but when I did my training here in Spain there was at least one girl on the course who wasnt a therapist, (she was a nail tech), I wasnt asked to bring any certificates to prove that I was qualified, not sure how it works int he Uk.

The nail tech may have just been learning the products so she can retail. You don't have to be a skin therapist to have knowledge of the products. Receptionists can also attend the product knowledge courses just not the professional treatment ones

Sorry for the continued CND hijack.....
Geeg we have had this conversation before, you suggested I contact Pacific... I did this... just in case your interested. The product is still on display and sells very well to the general public (according to the sales assistant) I don't mind as we have lots of work but I do feel for the nail specialists who are battling this problem.

Not only that Pacific sell online direct to the public through their cndshop.com.au website. At least that is at full retail prices, but they put a lot of free stuff in the shipped packages. I've suggested stuff to clients, had them go home and try to find it online, get it from the cndshop.com.au they tell me how much free stuff was included with their order and never buy anything directly from me. Some people do buy direct from me, but a lot don't, I don't have the endless supply of discountinued samples to throw in with a purchase.

There is also a brand called Bluesky marketing UV nail stuff called Shellac on sites like Groupon, with waffle on the offer Nail the Flawless Look with this Premium Shellac Nail Kit including Quick-Drying Lamp, 5 Radiant Bluesky Colours and Top & Base Coat- for only $79! Including Delivery Nationwide! 82% OFF- Normally $447! I've contacted Pacific and they didn't reply to me, nor did the offer get removed, I've seen it almost every month this year.

The wholesalers that sell direct to the public are another matter again.

CND is pretty easy to get, if you know to look for it, it doesn't have the brand recognition of OPI, and I think that is the only thing limiting it. I've got clients that get all their solar oil from places like 7-11 on US holidays because it is so cheap and easily found everywhere. I've even stocked up in from US retail outlets because it was cheaper than wholesale in Australia!

now back to the Dermalogica discussion....

Wow - a fantastic example of completely ignoring the issues! The issue isn't about unauthorised accounts selling Dermalogica. It is about authorised accounts undercutting small businesses who can't compete with the likes of Jersey Beauty Company who are retailing products at an average discount of around 20 - 25%!!

You can't dictate the price at which product can be sold but you can follow other skincare companies and require that no product is sold online!

Also you say that there must be a treatment room available where products are being sold. Is there one at duty free in Heathrow Terminal 3, or how about Selfridges in Birmingham and Liberty in London?

Hear hear!!

I've always loved Dermalogica but chose not to open an account with them whilst starting a small business as I knew I just couldn't compete!

I couldnt agree more Mat, the girl on my course was going to distribute the products here in Spain online, I am sure that they knew this, and as another geek suggested why dont dermalogica start by removing any ebay sellers that are selling discounted stock?

haylo-therapies, took the words right out of my mouth! I also use to teach beauty in a lets say "naughty school" and they wouldn't entertain the idea of us opening an account. they are a joke in my opinion

I think that as Dermalogica UK have at least shown interest and taken the time to post a reply in this forum, that you all could at the very least be polite and professional in your responses; most have been ... There is always 'the FEW' that let the others down.

I had to 'heart' you after your first line!! lol

i think we could sit here all day and have a moan and grown about everything and anything! just dermalogica seems to be the focus recently!

Although after the like 12 page thread a while ago any many account sending letters of complained to Jane Wurwand herself its about time Dermalogica got there head out the sand and come on Salongeek!

Never heard of Jersey Beauty Company before reading this! Wow, so we have Feel Unique and them undercutting people from here... sorry!

Hi Guys,

Just to point out that i have had a professional Dermalogica treatment at Liberty London! Their treatment room is upstairs, I didn't know it was there until I asked. Because i'm training i was talking to the lady and she said she has worked for dermalogica for over 5 years.

I love their products and think its great that they replied.!

I had another Dermalogica facial today ... I have always loved the products and the therapist is excellent. I bought my products from her. Why would anyone buy from eBay or a shop, when the products are right there at the salon and they can get them there and then? Most if not all people would buy from the therapist. Just plain silly (or tight) not to in my opinion. I intend to go fortnightly !

But your a professional person Geeg in this industry so you understand the fundementals of it.
Unfortunately with the economy and people in the UK being 'tight' as you put it - they wont support therapists and salons when they know they can get it cheaper online.

For instance - a Dermalogica cleanser, toner and moisturiser will cost in excess of £110. So they can spend £110 at the salon there and then
Or
Go online to a discount site and buy the exact same products, choose an abundance of samples and have it delievered by special delivery and recieve it the next morning - the best bit is it will cost you only about £80.
So for that level of service - and unfortunately to the salons affected - these online discount site DO give FANTASTIC service, why would you pay top whack just to 'support' the salon?? People here don't think like that - hence this and many other threads.

It just seems that so many people are out of touch with how consumers spend their money and the lengths they will go to get a bargain.
We know its wrong, but the people spending the money dont care as long as they get it cheap

As you say ... Maybe I am out of touch! Lol I would not think to buy like that and I wouldn't know what to ask for or how to use the products without the therapist's help. She sampled me, she used the products, She explained to me how to use the products and I feel the results ... I would not think of then buying on line after that kind of service. .. there should be more like me, right? A therapist's dream! :D
