Does anyone here have a super sensitive skin which is very dehydrated and also acne prone who swears by dermalogica products for their skin??

Hi. I have been working in a salon for 3 months doing nails, the other therapists are all qualified in Dermalogica. Ihave heard raving reports from clients who have their nails done by me, but have facials using Dermalogica and they now purchase it for home use.

They only buy the Dermalogica though once they have had a full Face-Mapping session. This determines the 12 zones of your skin and then the qualified therapist will advise the client as to which products are exactly right for their particular type of skin. Find out if there is a Dermalogica salon in your area where they can do a Face-Mapping session for you. I am hoping to go to Dermalogica early in next year to start doing the facial courses. Good luck - I hope you find the right answer and product for your skin.:wink2:

I am a skin geek and have done some dermalogica training myself, and have also had skincare advice from a highly trained dermalogica lecturer so i already know which products are suitable for me. Im just asking fellow geeks who have similar skin to me if they are fans as its always nice to hear other positive feedback, makes me feel better using it if that makes sense?!

I have clients saying it burns the skin
so i dont use it i use elemis !

I actually wanted to try elemis but find it very expensive :-(

I have used dermalogica professionally and personally for approx 15 yrs, and I have never heard of anyone having a burning reaction.
If anything I have used the soothing spray on people suffering from extreme hayfever allergies on red, swollen eyes to see the redness and swelling reduce within minutes.

Elemis have sent me some beautiful gift boxes and they were packaged very luxuriously. they would make a wonderful present. As I had a full face pack and a full body pack, I decided to see what I thought compared to my Dermalogica ( its always a good idea to keep an open mind).
The body products were lovely, but the smell was too strong for my personal choice.
The facial products were almost as good as my usual, but after a month, my skin dint feel quite as youthful.

Some clients prefer their beauty products packaged to look expensive as it makes them feel spoiled and pampered.
Others (and I'm in this category) prefer products that look simple but are anything but.

I feel that both ranges would work in the same salon, not that ive donethat yet.

I trained in Dermalogica many years ago & although some of my clients liked it, I couldn't get on with the products. I reacted to several of the products, and I've never had any reactions with any of the other ranges I've used. As a result I stopped using them - it's very difficult selling & using a range when you can't use it yourself!

I had mild acne when i started college and my tutor swears by the stuff so i thought id give it a try and 6 months later my spots have all cleared up. I used the anti bac. It feels fantastic if you have oily skin and i will NEVER go back to anything else.
But it depends on the person though, we all like different things.
I believe its worth giving everything a try once

I see Elemis being more of a Spa range than Dermalogica. The only impression I've had of Elemis is that they a bit stuck up their own arse. I've spoken to them a few times at trade shows and their attitude to me has really put me off their brand.

With skin products it is very personal, both mentally and physically. You may love the smell / feel etc of a product but the body may have a reaction to it. If others rave about a product it doesn't make it the best around, it makes it the best for their skin and body. For any skincare range the secret is to try samples of as many as possible to see which suits you the most.

I agree about the elemis consultants being up their own arse, ive had a few bad experiences with elemis therapists. Their packaging and the smells of their products are more luxurious,(my skin doesn not tolerate fragrance!),but im also one of those people who prefer simple "boring" packaging and an amazing product inside.......although i do feel ive yet to find an amazing range for my own very difficult skin.

So do you mind me askin what range you use for your own skin?

I loved Elemis body products when I used them during a treatment. Very luxurious, and I loved the smell. Dermalogica are ok but I don't think they're anything special for the price. A friend of mine was quite reactive to them too but they do have quite a variety of products within the range.

I now use Pelactiv professionally, an Australian range which deals with sensitivity and dehydration, right across the range, no matter what your skin type.

Of cousre not! I use Decleor on my own skin & in my clinic. I worked in a Decleor gold salon in 1998 & after I left there I always said I would use them if I had my own place because not only are they a pleasure to use but they get fantastic results & have a great range of professional only products (especially the 16% AHA peel). In the meantime I had worked with Dermalogica, Elemis, Sothy's & Aromatherapy Associates, but none of them turned me off Decleor, hence why I'm using them now!

I started having monthly Dermalogica facials about 6 months ago, and my bathroom shelf now looks like a Dermalogica counter ! I love it, my skin has never felt or looked so good. I am a Dermalogica girl for life  I do have hormonal breakouts certain times of the month and my skin is quite sensitive and very fair. I use:

My little routine evening ritual
soothing eye make-up remover
Dermal Clay cleanser twice
Daily Microfoliant (night time only)
Multi-active Toner
Multivitamin power firm (night time only)
Total eye care (mornings)
Skin Smoothing Cream
Solar Defense Booster (mornings)

Skin Hydrating Mask twice a week

I also use the treatment foundation and the Day Bright

I bought a Pelactiv salon about a year ago, and thought I'd give it a go, even though I'd never heard of it. The product wasn't bad, but the customer service was non-existent. So I contacted a few other companies that I liked, including Dermalogica, and only two of them got back to me. The first (and the one I chose) was an Australian product called La Clinica. Their rep came into my salon in person with samples and information a day or two after I sent off my enquiry. I emailed and phoned Dermalogica, but they still took 10 days to get back to me. I was really disappointed, but I need a company that will work with me as a team. Ten days to respond to a prospective new salon is way too long in my book.

I have extremely sensitive skin/eczema, but I'm also prone to acne. Dermalogica is the ONLY product range I have been able to use. My best advise would be to focus on one problem at a time. I started off tackling my sensitivity. I use ultra calming cleanser, daily microfoliant, soothing protect spray and skin smoothing cream. I introduced one product at a time! Once my skin became less sensitive I started to target the acne, using the medibac mask once a week and special clearing booster for breakouts. Desensitising the skin was the hard part. It took a while but I now have healthy looking, desensitised, spot free skin. Daily microfoliant was the product I found most beneficial and is now my must have!

I'm one of the unfortunate people that experienced skin burning. I have fair skin, acne prone. It was over six years ago now, so i have forgotten which product (maybe a face wash), but my whole face felt like it was on fire. Washing off didn't help, whole face was red and inflamed. I've never had this problem with any other product. That said, I had bought all products recommended to me during a face mapping and continued to use the rest without issue. I actually really liked their oil free moisturizer.

this is very good advice. sensitivity is definatly the 1st thing to tackle. the soothing protection spray is one of our biggest sellers.
then you can trat any additional problems one at a time.
