I have recently switched to absolute opi acrylic.

one of my reg used to have dermatitis when she had nails done at a diffrent salon then came to me n she was fine up untill i made the switch to opi acrylic and she realised it had to be the product.

since then had 3more clients get dermatitis and now i am starting with it.

anyone had this problem??

find it hard to believe im only salon owner suffering with this problem.

opi representative hasnt replied to my email when she generally replys straight away, leading me to believe she has seen this before but not wanting to admit it.:irked::irked:

It would seem you are having a bad time with this at the moment with so many clients and yourself all at once showing signs of irritation.

For this skin reaction to happen, product chemicals must be coming into contact with SKIN. Nail products should not touch the skin EVER. Repeated contact of any chemical with skin can lead to overexposure which is a chemical hazard caused by prolonged and repeated exposure to a chemical or chemicals beyond the safe level.

I would take a very good look at your application techniques. Things that can cause skin contact are ..
  • too wet a mix ratio,
  • 'cleaning' up around the edges of the nail with your brush,
  • sloppy brush work in general.
  • Putting your brush into a point with your fingers
  • Holding your brush to close to the ferrule
  • Not using a dropper to transfer your monomer to the dappen dish to name just a few.
Your application should be precise and careful so that skin contact just doesn't happen. That should be everyone's goal.

Handling chemical substances with knowledge and care is a must.

thank you for taking time to reply.

I first thought it must be skin contact with liquid but it really cant be, because it is palm and inside of fingers and i never have liquid on me or clients skin.

could it be from the dust created from filing? I really think this is the problem.

at moment im researching on the net and finding alot of reports on opi using ingredients that are proved harmfull.

some changes have been made so you can buy formaldehyde free products with them but i will be interested to double check my acrylic and see if these such substances are used.

Of course filing dust can absolutely (pardon the pun) cause dermatitis particularly if it is a low odour/odourless monomer which has a semi sticky/rubbery roll off layer. This layer is still reactive and uncured and to get this repeatedly on your skin is a big NO NO.

Always wear gloves when filing this type of product.

hi i get the same thing but with me its itching, then blisters and then its like a chemical burn and the skin cracks an peels away, there are phots of my reaction in my profile.
I have managed to stop it noe tho, i spray my hands with antiseptic spray, then use, alchohol rub(the kind they use in hospitals) then use a product called gloves in a bottle and i wear 2 gloves on my left hand and this has stopped the reaction.

Why would you use an antiseptic spray then alcohol as neither would stop an allergic reaction if you came into contact with the allergen. Wouldn't just the gloves in a bottle and the 2 pairs of gloves or just the gloves alone do the trick?

Crumbs, if I had to do all that I think I'd switch to a product that I wasn't allergic to.

Have to say, I am in TOTAL agreement here Gigi, there is no way I would want to go through all that to do my job let alone the added cost:eek:

yes the gloves in a bottle and the 2 pairs of gloves alone does work as i found out, i was just desperate to find anything that worked, as i love opi and i will not change to a different product until i am absolutley sure that i have done everything i can to help stop it, and if that doesnt work then i will find another product, but up to now its working for me, so im happy, i was only trying to share my experiences.

thank you so so much for replying, i was getting real annoyed that no1 was telling me theyd had same problem. i knew i couldnt be the only one.
im changing to creative now because i think itl be impossible for me to wear gloves all time when doing nails, and the product is so much better.

dont you worry that if its doing that to your hands, what it could be doing to your lungs? more i research opi acrylic the more worried i get. just give it a look on net at what ingredients they have kept in when theyv been proven harmfull

xx

Ingredients such as what?
Which ingredients are supposedly harmful?

Do you have the MSDS's for the product?

To make such a statement you really do need to back it up with facts!

i work for and with opi, so maybe i can help you...

check the opi product number, and report it to your distributor, if it's AB XXX request the old Absolute liquid, which is less harmfull to your skin.

or you can use competition liquid, they match. but it sets fast.

Absolute isn't an odorless or a low odor system. but the new liquid wasn't a good one, therefore we requested the old liquid, but it takes time for all the countries to ally (here we only sell the old one for the reasons you mentionned)

To be honest no, show me links to these sites so i can research this info myself because i cant find anything that backs up what you say.

obviously heated debate.

In end research i was finding was only related to products sold in america, they said harmfull things were taken out to be sold in europe.

then again im still having this problem and yet another client has started with itchy finger problem. lost all faith in o.p.i acrylic, i just cant see how such a huge company can have this happening.

you could say it was me doing something wrong but all i can see it hapening from is acrylic filings, and i dont know how i could get around that completly. i definatly dont think its a good thing if i had to wear gloves all the time aswell, never had to with any other product so why should i now.

msds sheets just give me more reason to avoid it aswell.
dont understand people wanting to over defend product when this obviously isnt a simple problem with simple solution.

definatly changing product, its just a shame and if anything im just dissapointed.
