Hi all,

last night one of my clients came round for a full set of acrylic enhancements. After checking over each nail i noticed that she was a nail bitter and one of the young ladies nails was worse than the rest, It was strange because right in the centre of the nail near the moon there was a random piece of nail that had come away in the centre of the nail plate, almost like a little circle of nail had just fell out!, there was no bruising or damage to the nail or nail bed other than the bitting of course, but the bitting wasnt even that bad really, iv seen worse! because of this i explained i could not do her nails as i was unsure of why the nail had come off and didnt want to make matters worse!!! does anybody know why this happened and was i right not to do the enhancements???xx

Yes you are right!!! Her nails are too damaged and enhancements will only exasperate the condition of them!

Offer her regular manicures to get her nails in good condition and try to wean her off this habit!

If you did put nails on her you will find she will bite these off too and cause more damage to the nail and make your life hell too with endless repairs!!

Nice to see a nail tech though thats honest. You wont believe how many salons I know who would do them regardless just for the money!

I think you were right hun but its difficult to have an idea of what might have happened to the nail without seeing it. sounds ever so strange

I been thinking about this for a while. I have seen this before. She either bites that nail in the middle when stressed and unaware she does it and that would cause the nail to erode. Also I have seen this on clients who have had dodgy technicians apply false nails! If she cannot grow it out in the next few weeks then refer her to her DR but I doubt its serious!

xx

I think you did the right thing, if you are ever in doubt then dont do it.

Sounds a bit bizarre just the middle of one nail, but clients dont always tell us everything we need to know in case we wont treat them e.t.c . its like the classic "my nail just pinged off"

If you did do the full service and there were any problems, you would of really doubted yourself as you wernt sure enough in the beggining to know excatly what went wrong.

Dont worry about it hun, Clients will respect you more for being frank with them rather then just doing a service for money.

Just offer her weekly manicures and see how her nails grow. If problems persist then refer her to her GP to be on the safe side.
Also if you continue treating her then you will probably find out more info about her and then there will be a logical explanation regarding that nail.

Thanks everybody feel loads better about the whole situation now x

You did the right thing. This sounds a lot like a client I had. She didn't bite her nails but she ground her teeth against them (if that makes sense) which wore her nail away in a small spot in the middle. I treated her with manicures until they had grown out and they were fine. she doesn't grind anymore and has lovely nails bless her. x
