I want to go on a strict diet to get rid of my excess weight after having my son. Now dieting once you get to ketosis is fine no hunger and good weight loss my only concern is (as I have done this in the past) is I stink, my breath everything!! Honestly I brush my tongue and teeth til they bleed and use mouthwash but still you just can't help it on a very low cal diet, is it selfish to do this to clients I will use disposable mouth guards, body spray and candles in the room? Just need the weight off now and I can't stick to weight watchers?

I've done VCLD's on a couple of occasions and bad breath is an awful side effect, however I know from my clients who are dieting, it's worse for you than for them, especially as you are very aware that it's a possibility so are worrying and checking more.

I don't think it's unacceptable to clients for you to diet, your health is more important than any job, no matter how much we love it

If you are especially worried ask a friend to be honest and tell you if there is a problem, but keep up with the mouthwash and deodourant, you'll be fine.

Good luck with the weightloss

Could you not get a packet of them paper like mints? Pop one on the tongue or side of the mouth before te client comes in, hopefully give u more confidence about the breath while dieting. I can't stick to weight watchers too.
Best of luck xoxo

Thanks trinity for reminding me it's my health. Raring to go although I know the offer of mints will be coming forth! That how I know my breath stinks when dieting mint offers, it's a give away!

Have you tried slimming world ? Normal food without counting points and no smelly breath,
I've lost 4st doing it

i bought some bj spray from ann summers!!! it tastes lovely and it makes your breath smell great :D i would like to point out i bought it to put in my car so my breath didnt smell going into clients... i did NOT buy this for the intended use of this product

Funny you should mention this as I'm on a low carb diet too started just over a week ago and Ive got that tell tale taste in my mouth, I find that if you have one portion of brown carbs a day eg, a small portion of brown rice or some bran flakes for breakfast it does help, I also chew gum it's going well tho have lost 4llbs in the first week lol x my advice is to get some sugar free gum.

Thank you so much for responding the Ann Summers BJ sprays sounds worth trying even for the novelty factor. Unfortunately when Im on a strict diet brown rice puts you out of ketosis and you are then left hungry and not burning off you fat supplies. I want all my carbs to be depleted and just to be in my smelly fat burning zone, nice quick weight loss. Tried slimming world and only lost a pound in first week and did not even have a syn, so not for me. Many thanks to you all!

I think you might be being over sensitive LOL, I would never have a mint/chewing gum/biscuit/coffee/whatever without offering whoever I was with one, not because they smell but because it's polite

Aah so your one of the do gooders? Lol joking, I never thought of that, realised I do it now xoxo

Ok please don't hate me for this but...

Why would anyone put their body into ketosis. It doesn't make any sense. For a start you cannot sustain this diet without it eventually killing u. And when you start introducing usual foods you will put weight back on.

Slimming world doesn't work with no syns firstly because you can't sustain it. Secondly because everyone needs essential fats. Thirdly... U nee a life and treats!

Im one that says healthy eating in moderation and exercise is the only way to lose weight and sustain weight loss.

That way u will actually enjoy your life and not be physically starving. Losing 1lb a week is also ok! Over 3 months that's a stone! And u would be able to maintain that loss easily x

I get where you coming from, I'm not planning on doing it forever! The reason I prefer to lose maintain weight this way is because it is easy and quick. There is no evidence that you have more success keeping off the weight with slimming world or weight watchers that is simply a myth and actually there is studies to suggest crash dieters are more likely to keep of long term. The thing with diet we have to do something that works best for us it's an individual choice, my minds always open for suggestion though! Great slimming world works for you!

I wasn't suggesting or advertising slimming world. Simply stating that ketosis is both dangerous and unhealthy. And there are far more studies to back this up. I just don't think there's a quick fix for losing weight. At least not one that can be sustained.

Ketosis is when your body has no resources left to sustain it, and is literally trying to cannibilise itself in an effort to stay alive!
Your heart and brain also need glucose from carbs to function - as a type 1 diabetic if ketones are detected I'm normally off to hospital to be put on a drip!
Carbs are not bad for you, they're necessary for survival.

Type 1 too. Probably why this causing concern to me! It's baffling the extent people will put their bodies through x

Slightly off topic, but do you also get annoyed that people only assume you have diabetes from being terminally lazy and surviving on a diet of doughnuts?!
Always on the news they go on about obesity and how diabetes is bankrupting the NHS.
They rarely stress that getting type 1 is just sheer bad luck.
I'm 5 ft 7 and smack on 8 stone...x
Many is the time my family have had to restrain me from hurling a fluffy mule at the tv.....

Yes totally. And I got late onset type 1 so I feel like I have to explain it so they don't think I'm just fat and lazy filling up on chocolate and bread! Really winds me up! Xx

chewing on fresh parsley works well, maybe difficult in the salon but you could eat some before going to work, then gum between clients, good luck with the weight loss, anything that makes you lose weight and make you feel better about yourself cant be all bad!!

not because I'm dieting, just because I'm paranoid about breath odours, I always have a stash of fresh breath mint sprays (sugar free). You can buy the "gold spot" ones for about £3.50, but I have tried the cheap ones (50p I think) from Primark, and they work just as well!

I always have a spray or 4 just before a client comes in and it seems to work for me.

Also, make sure you drink PLENTY of fluids, even fizzy no sugar drinks work for me, just stay away from coffee and tea at bad breath moments.

hth

Lol this made me laugh!

May i say to the op, good on you deciding to lose the weight. I am starting tomorrow as ive juat had enough! Im going to weight watchers as ive tried them all but it seems the only one that works for me as i love my food too much and can stil have foods i like but in moderation. I must admit though i think they all work if u r determind and motivted. Also drinking lots of water makes my weight shift faster.
To be honest, i know what to not eat or what to eat, i just need someone to encourage me. I did slimming world when i was getting married. It worked too but i got fed up with planning everything. I like ww as u can grab something when ur out and point it.
Get some sugar free mints or spray they normally work for me and like i say lots of water hth x
