hi there

i want to teach eyelash extensions but i dont know if it is legally required to have the "teach in the lifelong sector" course in order to teach this. please help

i mean i can teach it, and then it is upto the student to find insurance surely? which they can get if they do a facials course i believe?

can beauty therapists be insured if i train them(who are already insured in beauty therapy)

You need to have any training courses accredited in order to be able to give out a recognised certificate,
without a recognised certificate your students will not be able to get insured, and should not be carrying out treatments without insurance,
you need to contact the bodies that accredit courses to find out their requirements, such as the guild and babtac,
you also need to be fully qualified in the treatment yourself and have quite a few years experience, hth

Hi as Louise said in order to issue a certificate to enable a student to gain insurance you will need some form of accreditation. Now at the moment there is legal requirement to hold a teaching qualification, however it is fast becoming a major requirement to gain accreditation. You will also need to produce you own course and materials unless you are authorised to teach from another persons/company's literature. We have spent many long hours typing away, and researching to develop the courses we run. We completed our PTTLS last year and although we didn't feel we learnt anything extra about delivering learning, it did prove valuable for developing are records systems and the whole paperwork side. I hope this helps a little, good luck in your new venture.

thanks thats really useful-will contact beauty guild now x

For your students to gain insurance, you will need to have your courses accredited. The Guild require you to hold a teaching qualification in order to accredit you.

Our offices are closed until 4th January, but you can PM me or email at louisa@beautyguild.com and I will send you the required information.

I know about being accredited but how do we gain the teaching qualifications.

Where do we go who offers these teaching courses.

Surely you dont have to go to a uni for years to teach a treatment you are already very competent in and have many yrs experience with????

You would need to contact your local further Education College and enrol on a Teacher Training course (often 1 day a week or 2 evenings).
I`m a fully qualified Lecturer and also realise that just because you are a Teacher, doesn`t mean you are better than those Therapists who have been doing e.g nails for years! But, this is how the industry works due to insurance reasons. Personally, if you really want to teach, I would defo enquire about the teacher training. I absolutely love it! Hope this helps X

Have a look for PTLLS, NVQ Assessors Awards or City & Guilds qualifications, as these are generally acceptable.

any idea how you would go about this in Ireland? I know you can do a itec teachers training diploma, but i would like to teach non diploma courses - can i teach these without a teacher training diploma??

any help grately appreciated:)

hi I am considering doing the course but there is the a1nvq assesor course and the ptlls course which one is better.

When I have completed the course what is my next step in being accredited

thanks x
