Hi all

I usually take about between an hour and hour and a half for a soak and re-do, french taking the longest. A full set of tips ( natrual ) or sculpts usually take me about 25 mins longer.
I find clients are really suprised at the length of time it all takes and it makes me feel kinda silly, like I'm not quick enough. Do any of you have the same prob.

Hi Lilly

I wouldn't worry.. I'm the very same. I allow an hour and a half max for a soak and new gel.. it usually takes about an hour and 15 though

When I do a new set of enhancements I allow an hour and a half for that. I know some techs out there will be shocked we take this long, but at the end of the day, my clients are more than happy with the service and have never moaned about the time when they see the nails they have when I'm finished.

^^^^^ I wish it took me this long!!! :irked:

Hi, I have been doing calgel nails for about a month now and I feel the same, I know speed will come with experiance but i feel kinda embarrassed that i take so long! It takes me about an hour to do overlays and a full set tips or sculptures in french take me easily 2 hours! I think its normal so its best not to worry or panic too much about it, we will get faster in time! I take pride in my work and I dont know about you but I like every nail to be exactly the same, so bein such a perfectioist is hard work! lol

I felt like that when I first started. It was worse for me as I worked with 3 other techs who were more seasoned than myself.
But do you know what, I focused more on getting the application/filing/technique perfect and the speed comes with time.

When I've felt a bit down I alwas remind myself of Gigi's words..."It's not practise that makes perfect but perfect practise that makes perfect"

I've seen techs who have been doing nails for years and their nails still look blocky and flat; not elegant and graceful as they should be.
I have customers request for me even though they know that I'm not as fast as the others but they appreciate the time and care I put into their nails and the fact that I don't butcher their nails.

I am really beatin myself up with the same problem at the mo!!

I think its largely down to the fact that the girl who does my nails get a full set of pink and white sculpts dun easily in under an hour and a rebalance done in 45 mins!!! No problems- doesn't look one bit stressed or rushed, plus we always have a good gab!!!

I started off relativly slow and was getting down to about an hour and 10 for scuplts however I have gone upto an hour and a half now.

I think this may be due to taking more care and attention to my work which I suppose in the end is more important!! Currently looking for a job in a salon now to get my speed up as it does worry me what clients are thinking!!!

yes it takes me about 2 hours to do a set and i find my clients are suprised it takes this long.although i knew some of my clients found it abit of a pain that it took up there evening my work made up for this as they were pleased with the nails.i said i will get quicker but there is not anything i can cut out to make me do them any faster without compromising the quality of the nails.
one client did come from an oriental salon who work alot quicker than me which is partly why my client was suprised at how long it took me.
if my nails hadnt been up to standard then she would have definately gone back to them as she could have her nails done in her lunch hour.but i converted her from acrylic to gel which she loved.so she felt it was worth the extra time as she only had to come to me every 4-5 weeks. i do find time a problem for alot of people as they want them done within about an hour so i do feel that i have put some people off with my timings.x

I always allow an 1hr 45mins for each client unless Im doing popits lol, I dont want my client to sense that im rushing them through their treatments, as I have felt this way when I used to have my nails done at a salon and it disgruntled me as I felt as though I was a burden to them, when in fact my hard earned cash is paying thier wages, overheads etc.. and I deserved to feel pampered.

Hi,
I'm new to nails also and have this problem. It takes me about 2 hrs for french l&p with natural extensions. I feel guilty and bad that clients have to sit there for so long but at the end of the day, 1) I know I will get faster with time and 2) my clients are so pleased with the end result they dont care about the time.
I think they would rather have a fab set of nails than me cut out a step or to and have them looking dodgy and falling off the next day.
We all start out this way, but there is a light...!

Newbies always complain about the timing in comparison to the NSS.
Then I point out all the differences in my services (ex: I remove cuticle properly, and push back eponychium which takes a few min... while the NSS use an efile to do the same and damage the nail plate and nick the client's eponychium...) and how that effects timing.
I explain also how any trauma (broken nail, chipped nail, lifted nail due to a whollop) will extend the time it takes me to rebalance.
PLUS art takes time
I make sure they realize the time when I've finished the rebalance BEFORE I start the art so they see where some of the time goes.

And because I seal the art under the uv gloss, they have to wait for it to dry before I do so. Ensuring they dont' smudge on the way home VS having them painted at the end like at the NSS and risking smudging on the way home.....

A rebalance and french and/or art will take 1.5 to 2hrs.

I used to feel bad.
I don't anymore.
I'm happy with my nails and so are they.

Try not to worry too much about your timing...get your application PERFECT and you will soon find your timing comes down as you work MORE with your brush and LESS with your files.
Hope that makes sense x

I have found that it's usually new clients that have been to nss before that start to look at the clock after half an hour. I've been doing nails for 5 years I take up to an hour and a half to do a french fullset. I never use white tips always white acrylic and I know that they can immediatly see the difference. I'm totally fine with taking this long because I know I have done the best work I can for them, without making comprimises and using shortcuts.
