Hi Geeks

I was doing a set of nails today ... let me set the scene .. new client terrible nail bitter, small WIDE nails, half a mile of cuticle covering the nail bed.
they ideally want french pink and white .. short nails!!!

The question is do you ever get disheartened at the end result????

Even when you know that you have done the VERY best you can do .. normally taking twice as long but the finished product just doesn't do it for you ... at this point i sit back and get doubts about my work ... 99% of the time the client is thrilled with their nails and can't stop looking at them ... BUT then there is that 1% that will pick and pick !! till you feel like saying "well if you looked after your nails a little and keep the little beggars out of your gob for 5 secs i might have a bit more to work with!!!!"

Any feed back geeks .. please share some of your tales so i know i'm not alone!!!

The best thing to is to advise people that they would get better results if they had a few manicures first & used the proper homecare they would get better results.

You can only do what you can do.

If you're anything like me (perfectionist at heart) then you would never be happy with a set of nails like that. I can't tell you that I have ever been completely satisfied with a set I've done. I will always find something to pick at, something that could have been a little better, or even just my timing was too long. With a wide nailed biter you are already in a loosing battle, good luck with the finished product being to our high level of expectations for ourselves.

Girl, good for you to take on a task like that. You performed a miracle for that gal, hopefully she doesn't eat them for dinner.:irked:

:!: I know I am a newbie and all, but when I was in school I had a
couple of clients that almost made me walk away from my dream job. DON'T LET A COUPLE BAD APPLE TAKE YOU OUT !! Just make it a positive. I know corny. But as a reminder to not let ourselves get to cocky with ourselves and techniques that we don't keep on our toes. As far as the rest there will always be that client as much as we hate saying it, that we just cant please. It is RETAIL business not just the NAIL business. Take a Deep breath and say just another notch on my belt for all the "blank blank blank" and go forward. I am sure what you did was your best. SO dont sweat the small stuff. Wide nails and nail biters are hard. Nail biters are the worst at wanting you to be perfect in the end anyways. I should know. I use to bite mine, but they shouldnt take it out on the TECH. well have a good one !!!!:smack: Cheer up lMAO at this smilie!! they like playing together LOL:smack:

we are nail technicians not miracle workers... if i think client is after something i cant give then i explain throughout the procedure what im doing and what with repeated visits we can achieve, Its very important to push the return visit with these types of hands.. tell then that with time and care you can achieve wonderful healthy nails.. but as its been along time that they have suffered, so too will it take a while before you the tech can care them back to health
You normaly find they are more then happy with the result.. but if you are honest with them they know where they stand and you take some pressure of yourself!

I bet they looked one hell of a lot better than before you started - I ponder this sometimes and at the back of my mind Im thinking sows purse/pigs ear ?

I agree, my heart sinks when someone sits in front of me and says they want nails like mine (long oval pink &whites at the moment)

I want to say right back yeah and I want a body like Kate Moss.

I don't of course but I explain that it will take time for their hands to recover and that the length of mine is unsuitable etc etc. Rarely does anyone follow my advice for a few manicures, so I do my very best with what I'm given.

I never 'like' the end result but if they do then I am at least satisfied that I have done by very best by them.

Do you know what, I have been disheartened with about 95% of the nails I had done up until the point I switched to CND, not saying theres anything wrong with the products you're using ( I dont even know what you use!) but for me personally I felt like I was seriously fighting a losing battle!

I think you've been dead brave taking on those sort of nails, and all you can do is tell her off for nibbling if she comes back to you in 2 days time claiming that they fell off!! I'm sure you did the very best you can do, and I really wanted to point out that you're not alone.

Don't let bad clients put you off - here is a little story to make you feel better:

Last year I had 2 clients come in, sisters, that wanted white tips and gels doing for their holiday. They both had barely any nails, and I was so unsure if I could do a good job, as at the time I was in a salon that liked me to apply tips, cover with resin and apply activator, buff then apply gel.

So that's what I did, and one of the sisters came back to say that her mate is a nail tech that works in Asda:eek: and that she said they were the worst nails she'd ever seen, and that all the mums at the local school couldnt believe how shocking they looked........

Yes they probably did look crap, and yes I cried my eyes out and wanted to escape the beauty industry all together. BUT what doesnt kill you makes you stronger, just dont ever think you're alone, and keep going. Pat yourself on the back chicken and keep your chin up! xxx

Sometimes I just don't do em..... sure their money is the same color, if they walk in, I give them advice, if they book in and turn up with nails like a hobbit, I give them gentle advice.

Sometimes people are beyond help ...lest there be a miracle and enhancements will only enhance their problems.

It's really up to you .... but you have to be gentle and subtle, above all ......KEEP EM SHORT.

French tips on a dwarf with hammertoe fingernails ain't cute, no matter how much you enjoy the challenge.

Ah dont worry too much hun, you can only work with what the clients present you with, if there's not much there to enhance in the first place, the end result isn't going to be brilliant!!

I had a client yesterday who INSISTED she wanted white tips. Her nails were bitten to the stump and I tried to explain that the whites would look bad, but she knew what she wanted, So I did them. I hated them, she loved them.

I think as long as you explain to your client why something wont look good, if they still decide to go for it, you've nothing to worry about.

I dont normally leave my work till Im at least 95% happy, probly explains why I take three hours ..lol..xxxxxx
