I'm asking this as I'm hearing of more n more people doing minx/blinx/trendy nail wraps etc who don't even do nails.
What's going on are they just buying them from somewhere and charging for them or can you just do a minx day course and start trading? Even with no previous manicure certificate?

I suppose it will depend on which brand you are looking at.

Take Minx for example - this is as far as I know officially only available from Sweetsquared and their partners. They will only sell to trained professionals.

However there are copies or alternatives which are available through different routes which are not so choosy.

It just seems to be getting more of an issue round where I am, I was just curious as someone said that the skills xchange college near me was doing courses for minx nails ?! Is that correct? And if so they are the ones I'm wondering about?

There is no reason why a collage can't teach a short manicure course and include nail art with it.
My basic nail art course was for half a day, it included how to apply nail polish, flicks, stips, foils and french polish.
This was five years ago and if I was doing the same course today I would expect it to include minx application.
Now, my nail art half day did not include mani and or pedi, mine was run by creative nails and followed my L&P course.
But Manicure courses are run by all sorts of people and a basic mani is often run as a half day course with a quick test at the end on H&S and that's it.
My own collage runs all sorts of 'taster' courses, you get a certificute at the end and it's supposed to give you a better idea as to whether you want to learn more.
Reality is, quiet a few people take the taster course, put a frame on the certificute and start up a business, no insurance, no intention of filling in a tax return and because it's all cash in hand, very difficult to stop.

Yes I know u can do short courses but I just meant to do a minx training day ( not manicure or nail art)
do you need to have done any training before?

That I don't know, it's one for the insurance companies.

Hi my name is Susie, I don't know anything about nails but I want to put minx on people and charge them money so will you give me 3rd party liability insurance?

I suspect the answer would be a big fat no.
But your question was actually can you do a minx training day with out any prior training.
No. I am absolutly certain that if someone rang sweet squared or one of their partners and wanted training in minx and they were totally untrained the answer would be:
No, they only train nail profesionals to use profesional products.
Is your local collage doing a minx style training day? Probebly, but they are not giving these courses accreditation. They are not training profesionals.
Any more then the half day indian head massage taster course is supposed to set people up in buisness doing that.
These courses are for people who are looking for a new direction, are board, long term unemployed, well the list goes on and on and the idea is that the person learning is doing so for personal development. That's the buzz word for looking for a new hobby.
Will they get insurance? No, are they going to be able to take business away from me? Well they haven't so far. Why haven't they?
Because I am insured, I am well qualified and I do have access to profesional products which are much better quality then the knock offs that their mate bought at the car boot sale.

I can asure you that wakefield college, skillsXchange are not doing short courses in minx. You are been misinformed.

We arrange additional short courses from industry providers to give students additional professional development. These short courses are offered to only nail and beauty students to whom it would compliment their qualifications.

We arranged to have a minx trainer in from sweet squared at the end of the last academic year.

Again to make this clear, This was an optional course provided for students completing their qualifications in nails and beauty therapy and provided legitimately through sweet squared.

Danielle Walker
co-ordinator for all Nail courses at wakefield college

Never underestimate the amount of people out there using the name 'Minx' to describe any of these treatments. They may be offering minx, but if they are not qualified it is not likely, much more likely they are offering an alternative product.
I dont have any experience of buying trendy nail wraps etc so I dont know how hard they are to get ahold of.

To be honest tho, with DIY nail covering kits available now anyone can buy one and advertise that they do 'Minx'

Obviously the quality and the workmanship will leave a lot to be desired lol

Danielle, that may have been what they were talking about the organized days I just heard they were 1 day and £130 for the day.

Who knows where these people who arnt trained are getting their products I can only assume eBay then.

You can buy trendy nail wraps in capital now also so will only be a matter of time before sallys sell them
I think everyone advertises as minx but it isnt actual minx they do!
I had a girl email me yesterday wanting minx done this week, I asked if she had a design in mind and she said "yeah the louis vuitton one" I said minx dont do a lv one and she said she went to a salon a few months ago and got minx lv done! Told her it wouldnt of been actual minx but another brand but claiming to be minx. She said it was definatly minx. Im meeting her later today to show her the brochure of minx to show there definatly isnt a lv one.

I also think its wrong that some people are offering training in minx but then telling them to go buy trendy nail wraps as they are cheaper! That is not minx!!

Jeeeez, Iv not been in there in a while so didnt know!
At least they arent the real minx!!

i am registered with sweet squared and if u contact them they can recommend training in your area x

I mean .. is anyone really surprised that people advertise that they offer MINX when they do not? It is really so stupid when they could get the real thing for no difference in price but a world of difference in quality. Just they can't get it because they are charlatans and not professionals.

It's no different with Shellac... same thing! People are offering somethinhg else and falsely advertising it is like Shellac .. why not just get Shellac?? Because they CAN'T because they are not pros so buy from the others (100's of them) who sell coloured gels but they call it Shellac or LIKE Shellac because it has the name and the reputation.

 This is the way of the world today .. you have to be savvy and realize what is happening.
