Hi Emma,

I always use incense, sometimes I may put it on before the treatment though so that it has a nice aroma in the room! I use an incense called Nagchama, which is my personal favourite, and I buy them in bulk from an auction website as it's ceaper than buying individual packs in the shops!

I always use essential oils on an electric difusser (can be easily turned off before scent becomes too much) and soft spa music. My clients love it and rave about my treatment room, that it helps them relax and get the most out of each treatment.
Below is a link for what I'm talking about,

Rio mini vapouriser - electric diffuser: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home

you can get essential oils and blends vertually everywhere, this is a preferred method as incense creates a smoke that many people have bad reactions to.

I too use an electric diffuser. I use a balancing oil such as rose geranium with a bit of May Chang for oomph!

I use essential oils in an oil burner that compliment the oils I am using in a treatment.

I do though light the room with tons of tea lights with wonderful music that makes the room inviting and tranquil.

I use candles, small tealights in class holders on the shevles and tall candles in the wall candle holder - which I get from Ikea, really cheap.

As for fragrance I have a goodsphere on, which is an aromatheraphy, coloured air purifier - which I got many years ago from ideal world shopping channel for about £40 plus £10 for each bottle of oil.

Ive looked and looked and looked and you cannot buy caandles cheaper then Ikea!

I'm not a fan of inscense but I do often use Essential Oils in my burner.

Depends on the kind of treatment - not if it's a remedial/sports treatment, but I do use essential oils and a burner for holistic treatments. I wouldn't use incense as it is not to all people's taste.

I'm not a skin geek, but I have to say as a consumer I agree with this. Unfortunately if I went in to have a treatment and there was incense burning I would have to turn round and leave! Not to be nasty or anything, but incense gives me a whopper of a migraine which kind of negates any effect from a treatment for me! hth :)

I use aromatherapy candles, the same as the Eve Taylor ones but I found their supplier and I now buy them for a fraction of the price!!:)

I too wouldn't be able to stand insence sticks because they bring on an asthma attack with me, which I guess means that not only should we be checking for treatment contra-indications but also environmental ones!!

Thanks for all your replies!!! I also agree about the insence. I personally do not like insence myself so would find it difficult working in a room with it!!! that is just from the few I have tried before though!!! I was really considering candles as they are a cheap option for the time being. Can anyone recommend any gorgeous smelling candles???!!!! Emma x

All I would say about scented products (candles etc.) is beware of sensory overload on your client. If your room is heavily scented and you then use essential oils with your massage it can be a bit "heady".

Using an oil burner (or similar) with essential oils is the most natural method to use and you can team this up with your tea lights and other candles to create that tranquil, restful environment.

I agree about Ikea candles. Buy in bulk!!!

Well- since you asked...
I go to an espa salon, and they have 'their own brand' candles burning, they aren't overpowering in the slightest (even for someone sensitive like me) and it is a gorgeous fragrance. But they are very expensive- there always has to be a downside :)

Espa candles are gorgeous! I burn candles all the time regardless of whether im waxing or massaging, clients always comment on how nice it is and gives a calming atmosphere. I used to use organic circaroma candles which do not give off the usual gases during burning but lately have gone back to yankee candles which i get cheaper on ebay! They have loads of scents but i like their 'spa island' which says it all! Its a light scent but as soon as i light it, it transports me far away somewhere exotic!

I use Yankee Candles, and they are fabulous. Use them all the time. There are over 130 different fragrances and they are very long lasting. PM me if you want any details - I actually retail them too!

I like using aroma oils but i also use wax melts which i get from a small garden centre of all places. Not sure of the name but you basically put the scented wax in the oil burner and it burns for ages - really nice smells too

I used to burn candles all the time but I sometimes used to worry when I got home if I had extinguished them or not.

I do burn a chocolate infused one when I do chocolate treatments.

i cheat! I have these 3 candles that look like pillar candles but they have a bulb in them and are powered by electricity. Clients sometimes ask me if they are real or not as they never seem to go down! LOL.

Yankee?
Colonial?

When I opened, I wondered for health and safety with candels if you were allowed to use them - If you only have 1 exit in the room etc.

Have people been given the go ahead touse these as I always thought Icouldn't due to the sixe of the room etc.

Any advise?

Best Kept Secrets - Candles and Candle Tins

These people have a range of scents and will package candle tin with your logo, name- anthing you want really.
Dunno how flexible price is, I'd give them a call. They used them at the salon I worked at last and they were quite a popular retail item too.
Clients always have your phone nember at home if they have one!
